Dude the 2001 recession started in the last two quarters of Clinton's Presidency.

Look at GDP growth for 2000.
Q1 1.0%
Q2 6.4%
Q3 -.4% that is a negative
Q4 2.0%
2001
Q1 -.4% another negative
Q2 1.3%
Q3 -1.3% another negative

Compare that the 'horrible economy' of 1992 that Bill ran against.
1992
Q1 4%
Q2 3.9%
Q3 .4%
Q4 4.4%

Clinton took over an economy that was growing at 4% per quarter and left an economy that was stagnant. He probably the luckiest President in modern times when it comes the economic cycles. Took over at the start of an expansion and left just as a recession was starting.

The Supreme Court did not GIVE Bush anything.

Even the court had done NOTHING Bush would have won the recount due to the way in which Gore was going about it. Read your history.

The economy in'00 was beginning to tank

Ever hear about the DotCom bubble and when it popped,it pulled the market into a freefall.

The balanced budget was forcasted on rosyprojections that went south after the lastClinton budget was prepared.

bush came into office with a slumping economy and then got hit by 9/11.
He never was able to really get things back on track (roaring along).
Majority of the issue was miscues and attempts to tweak the system into recovering faster.
that and the world economic issues w/ revolving around the price of oil broke the proverbial camel's back this past 6 months.

Seriously, what if the ONLY thing he gets right in his 8 years as President is screwing it up for the next guy?

You mean the way Clinton tried to do to him?

I hope Bush pisses on the door into the Oval Office after the bullshit treatment that he got in Jan 01.

i hope you aren't talking about the 'w' keys being removed from whitehouse keyboards, because that it turns out was faked by a couple bush staffers.

Not referring to pranks, no. Read the other 2 posts.

Personally, I hope he orders the drilling on ANWR on November 5th.

That would be illegal, not that laws ever bothered Bush.

Actually, if you bothered to follow up, many of the supposed things the Bushies did to the incoming President were not true. For example the oft repeated story of the Clinton staffers switching the letters on the keyboards was not true.

btw does the next Vice President get to keep Cheney's man sized safe?

Err, coherence? The 'Bushies' haven't done anything to any incoming President yet.

Here's an article about crap from December 2000. That doesn't even count January 01.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/f...=&spon=&pagewanted=all

His days as president are dwindling. But over the past few weeks he has proved intent on using the powers of his office right to the end, focusing attention on his agenda and himself, buffing his record for the history books and infuriating his enemies one last time.

On one day he announced new regulations to limit emissions from diesel-powered trucks and buses. On another he imposed new restrictions on the release of medical information by doctors and hospitals.

He has issued rules that would bar federal agencies from giving contracts to companies with a record of breaking labor, environmental or other laws, and set out new requirements for workplace health and safety. Early next month he is expected to make good on a promise to put at least 40 million acres of federal land off limits for road building and other development.

Never mind his decision to put on the presidential limousines new license plates that strike a blow on behalf of efforts to grant statehood to the District of Columbia by featuring the phrase, ''Taxation Without Representation.''

I don't know about keyboards and w's and the nature/details of the stunts that were pulled. It doesn't matter.

In other words, Clinton tried to get as much good stuff done for the benefit of the American people before leaving office. I don't see a problem here.

No. Read Ford's pardon of Nixon. Nixon never admitted wrong doing.

Seriously.

Can you believe these Bush apologists? Even after an eight year disaster these people seem to want more.

I think most likely, other than some inexcusable pardons, he's done enough damage. He's taken trillions away from the next president with the bailouts. I might be wrong, though.

Yes, there was major national coverage of the Bush team lies about the Clintons - accusing them of stealing lots of items, tearing out wires, etc.

Just goes to show their character from the first days of the administration.

It was a good indication of the extreme partisanship and lying we'd see so much of.

Funny, I must be off in my understanding of government again, but I thought the US Congress appropriated funds and passed legislation to be signed by the president. If I remember correctly is was congress controlled by democrats that passed the bailout legislation.....

Not really, since he knew full well that Bush would undo most of these orders. The sole purpose of these was to waste his successor's time and energy; if they had any merit, he had 7+ years to enact them.

The economy was going in the shitter. Everything else that happened in the govt after that started there. i dont know why people want to pin the slowing economy under Clintons last year on Bush. Bush has done a lot of dumb things but he had little control over the tech bubble collapsing under Clinton.

2000 Q1 = 1.0%
2000Q2 = 6.4%
2000Q3 = -.5%
2000Q4 = 2.1%
2001Q1 = -.5%
2001Q2 = 1.2%
2001Q3 = -1.4%
2001Q4 = 1.6%

Does that look like a sound economy to you?

Only 149?

Nixon issued 926 pardons
Carter issued 566 pardons and general amnesty for Vietnam draft dodgers
Bush 41 issued 75 pardons
Reagan issued 393 pardons and 13 clemencies
Bush 43 has already issued 159 pardons & 6 clemencies and has yet to finish his term, traditionally thats when the long list comes out.

Clinton was relatively meager with his pardons.

Clinton has 396 pardons and 61 clemencies on your own link. More than Reagan, more than Poppy, and more than W is on pace for.

Thanks for your correction. I retrieved Clinton's numbers from WikiPedia - which, I guess can't be trusted too far.
