The last Boeing 747 that will ever be made was completed yesterday...

Great run for the 53 year old plane...even though they still see limited use as passenger planes, they will still be used as freighters for the foreseeable future.

This last plane was for Atlas Cargo. She departed the Boeing plant in Seattle this morning headed to CVG airport with call sign GTI747 (atlas flights start with GTI).

Here is her flight plan and current progress (she has completed the crown portion of it)...

I remember the first time I flew on a 747 as a kid and how amazingly cool and HUGE it was! Got a tour of the lounge and cockpit from the co-pilot! (guess I was a cute kid?)

Flying was SO different (and fun!) back then! :)

I only flew on the 747 once, returning from London after a 6 hour layover. That was so many years ago.

Saw that in the news the other day. Its sad. The 747 was one of the few comfortable planes you could fly, especially good for long trips. So many fucking airlines are obsessed with the sardine treatment these days.
And you know god damn well the executives who make these decisions NEVER fly commercial. They always have private jets or small charter planes just for themselves.

I used to fly the 747 on long haul flights from San Francisco to New Dehli on Air India, old plane but the extra space on the seats was worth it

Me too! Girls couldn't get enough of me when I was under 10.

Puberty and acne ruined everything! :(

Anyway, true story: I embarked on a plane of a small airline in 2013, figuring, hey! If it goes down, good riddance to my girl-less life, yeah? My mates said to me, "Fine, you have a deathwish. What's the fault of the other passengers on your plane???" And that's when I knew, nah, this plane isn't gonna go down just to rid the world of me. So yeah, y'all can thank the aircraft engineers of that small airline for getting me safely to my "super classified" destination and then back to UAE.

EDIT: In case anyone is wondering, the plane was an Airbus A319 or A330. Can't remember exactly which. It did shudder quite a bit during take-off and flight, making me gleeful but sadly, it landed just fine :(

I'm 0 for 4 for getting to sit on the upper deck of a 747. Chances are dwindling so maybe its never meant to be :(

Scariest flight I ever took (so far lol) was departing West Palm Beach Florida on a truly ancient TWA L-1011 Tri-Jet.

Plane was nearly empty, the AC was dripping on the middle seats, then while climbing out after takeoff we had a smoke-condition and the whole plane was shaking like crazy.... I figured we were goners for sure! (especially when a stewardess unbelted and went SPRINTING up one of the aisles toward the cockpit!)

Turns out the plane was just an old rattle-trap POS behaving normally and the smoke was from another jet that took off ahead of us.... those older planes took in a ton more fresh air then we're used to now so this could happen.

Sad to hear, was such a difference flying from New Zealand to LA on a 747 for the return flight vs the 777 I took from LA to NZ where coach felt like it was made for people who are 4 foot 3. Though 727 will always be my favorite plane to fly on, all that legroom and no center seats felt so luxurious compared to the 737 and beyond.

Unless you were seated in the rear! :p

That was one noisy plane if in the last 10 rows or so! (really quiet up front though and for the same reason!)

Booking a flight on a commercial airplane is a vote against suicide. They are very low risk.

I have no idea if I've ever flown on a 747. I have never kept track of stuff like that. But I'm pretty sure I've never been in a Porsche, which is a shame I guess (much less a Rolls).

I've been in premium cars (sadly don't remember which ones) but my experience tells me that a good car will hardly make you feel when it's moving, isn't bumpy, pretty silent and you usually don't get sick in it if you are prone to motion sickness like me (though I bet a bad driver could still make me motion sick in a Rolls Royce).

I'm anti-suicide. Just wanted to try my luck to see if I might get a premature glimpse of what's on the other side of existence :p

From what I've read about it from some of the online recollections of out of body experiences, it's fun and you get to float through the universe and look at all sorts of fascinating, vibrantly colorful stuff!
