The knee-jerk PC world we live in

Show host fired for slip of the tongue.

Now listen to the actual radio broadcast clip. The context supports his version of the story, yet he's still fired. The radio station manager should be fired next for being so damn PC and for over reacting.
"I want everyone to know that what he had said does not reflect on the feelings of anybody at this radio station" WTF!? He didn't say anything. He didn't call her a "my excellent compatriot" as the manager's statement implies and the horrible media coverage of it says. The announcer screwed up a word, and the word that came out can be used to be deragatory, but again if you listen to the radio clip you'll see that he really did mean to say "coup". "my excellent compatriot" doesn't fit into the context of what he was saying. It's so damn obvious yet here we have the NAACP licking it's chops and the guy gets canned.

Poor poor racists, if only the right could make it acceptable to say what the really felt. Poor them.

The guy made a mistake, but he screwed up bad. I know your licking your chops wishing your favorite pundits could come right out and say what they have to hint at when speaking of welfare moms etc. Boo hoo 🙁

This is not about PC, this is about hypersensivity to race issues.

?I have no ill feeling for KTRS I would have done the same thing. It was my dream job and if I offended anybody, if I hurt anyone?s feelings all that I can say is that I am really, really, really sorry," said Lenihan.

I feel bad for the guy too. Obviously he's not a racist, and it was a mistake. But if you have listerners to appease, you have to let him go. What's truely unfortunate is that this will probably stigmatize him and prevent him from other jobs in that industry.

The classy thing would be for Condolleza Rice to issue a small statement through her PR machine that basically absolves the guy. I'm not holding my breath.

It is about PC, racial hypersensitivity is part of the PC problem.

It would be very classy of Rice to make a statement absolving the guy. I mean really, he was actually talking her up, he was not making a racist statement.

End your ignorance by listening

Since the lame news site now wants me to register for some reason, I'll post what the "news" is claiming.

Now read.

St. Louis (KMOV) ? Dave Lenihan, morning show host on KTRS, was fired Wednesday morning after he went on the air and made a derogatory, racial epithet about U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

KMOV

Dave Lenihan
The incident happened on KTRS just before 10 a.m.

?I was talking on the radio, and I was kind of talking about how Condoleezza Rice would make a great NFL commissioner. And I am a big supporter of Condoleezza Rice. I have met her a couple of times I would like her to run for president and for some reason, I don?t know the word I was going to say but I called her a ****," Lenihan told News 4's Marc Cox. "I apologized immediately afterwards," he said. "It was a slip of the tongue I am really, really sorry."

Lenihan says he is not a racist and was trying to say the word ?coup.?

He says it was a huge mistake and it was his own fault.

Within minutes, KTRS listeners began calling the station. Lenihan says he apologized repeatedly but when the time came to move on to the next segment, he was called into his boss's office and fired.

A few minutes later KTRS General Manager Tim Dorsey went on the air and announced to listeners that Lenihan would not be back.

"There were excuses made for it that it was a slip of the tongue, there is no excuse for what was said," Dorsey said on the air. "Dave Lenihan has been let go he will not be back at KTRS and I want all the listeners to know, I want everyone to know that what he had said does not reflect on the feelings of anybody at this radio station, in fact it is exactly the opposite," he went on to say.

Dorsey and Lenihan both called the use of the word a "slip of the tongue," but Dorsey said the utterance was nonetheless "unacceptable, reprehensible and unforgivable."

?I have no ill feeling for KTRS I would have done the same thing. It was my dream job and if I offended anybody, if I hurt anyone?s feelings all that I can say is that I am really, really, really sorry," said Lenihan.

NAACP chapter president Harold Crumpton called Dorsey at the station for an explanation and learned Lenihan had been fired. He said he accepted Dorsey's apology and commended him for his swift action.

Crumpton said the word is a derogatory term referring to blacks in the South, and "intended to inflame passions ... like the "n word."

He said he was disturbed that the word could be uttered "at a first-class news outlet, and home of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals don't act like that. They're a first-class operation."

He said Dorsey took the right action, adding it should send a message to other stations to do a better job of judging the character of on-air personalities.

It was just last August when the Cardinals bought a 50-percent interest in KTRS and moved radio broadcasts of their games from KMOX.

Just before Christmas the station fired nearly its entire staff of on-air personalities, and brought in a new lineup of hosts for its daytime talk and evening sports programming.

Lenihan just started at the station a week ago. Prior to KTRS, the Chicago native had worked at WGNU-AM.

I guess you call a person that cant take a joke a PRUDE. People need to get a grip and move on. I usually dont talk to people of color because of this subject. They try to twist everything you say and cant carry on an intelligent conversation about anything that does not lead to racism. I am very wary of talking about race or about issues concerning minorities at all in public. People have become so stupid their brains are falling out.

Anyone that looks for racism can find it, even if it is only in their immagination.

thought this was about personal computers...lol

political correctness is run amuck ...no doubt about it shades of grey...but to get someone like steeplerot to see it is akin to producing a litter of puppies from your cat.
Its highly unlikely.

I agree this is stupid - it reminds me of the schoolteacher who was fired about 8 years ago for correctly using the word "niggardly." It's as though we have to cater to the dumbest common denominator by sheltering their tender ears from anything they might foolishly take as offensive.

This was clearly a mistake. I think this announcer actually hurt himself by apologizing so profusely - if he'd just corrected himself immediately and moved on, I don't know that anyone would have noticed. Ironically, Rush, who has a vastly larger, national audience, received little criticism for calling Ray Nagin "Ray Nager"; I personally felt he did that on purpose. Ah well - at least Fox News can hire this guy now.

But Rush can call Mayor Nagin, Mayor Nager, on his nationally broadcast hate show and nothing happens.

Damn liberal media.

the NAACP has done way more to show blacks in a bad light than any other organization there is in my view. At least in my life thats true. They are also the most racist bunch of people that are actually allowed to get a nation stage for their ideas. It seems their goal is simply to turn everything in the world into a race issue. Back in the day they used to fight for equality for blacks and were a positive force in our country. Now they are just overdoing it, seeing racism where it doesn't exist, and accusing good people of being racist, or blaming black peoples problems on other races. Thats just my 2 cents, im sure many will disagree, but currently I hold the NAACP in a very bad light.

He shouldn't have been fired. I HIGHLY doubt that he deliberately called Rice that on purpose. His story seems to make sense too.

When is the NAACP going to fight to get rid of racist speech in ALL RAP ALBUMS and Hip Hop Albums

****** this and ****** that... rat ta tat tat ... This world is insane...

Why do they use that word all the time to describe each other..

Wow.... I never knew there was new bleep filter.. 😕

Up above I wrote the word bigger... but only with a N where the B is...

Damn liberal media.

1 conservative vs 3 liberal media outlets for the US to watch.

1 liberal vs 5 conservative on talk radio.

Which do you think gets more viewers? The Commie News Network (my former employer) or a national radio show? *hint* there are more viewers at 3am for CNN than there are on the highest day at any talk radio show.

It isnt so much a PC issue as an outright race issue. BET can broadcast things that the WB cant. I have seen shows that say "beloved patriot" (which wont be filtered by anandtech... hmmm) and shows that say "thewordthatwouldgetmebanned".

What cracks me up is that one certain minority feels this enourmous sense of entitlement because 3 generations ago thier ancestors were repressed. And we give them what they want!

In Miami a few years ago, they changed the police officer exam to not include swimming tests because a certain minority didnt swim as much as white people.

How do you get rid of racism? You ignore race. I dont care that you are black or yellow or white or purple or green, you get the same benefits from the government, you dont get laws made just for you, and you live in the same world that the rest of us do.

Hell, catering to any one group of people is racism in itself. It's actually pretty bad here in Atlanta. I personally dont care who anyone is, but when you have someone reminding you of the racial card every 10 steps... its hard to ignore race.

Not too long ago, MSNBC had an interview with a Black Republican named 'Niger Innis' and the caption sub-title
on the screen under his picture it was 'inadvertantly' spelled with two G's.

Mr. Innis

o'lielly tells al sharpton he wants him put "in chains"

Whats funny is we all know these types that always are like "I am no racist! I have XXX friends who are this or that" then get a few beers in them and watch as they "kiddingly in fun" tell a racist joke, then kinda glance around if it was ok, then they let loose.
Oldest story in the book .

I'm with you on this one. I live in Birmingham, AL and here race is shoved down your throat. We're currently involved in a descrimination lawsuit because we fired a girl caught sleeping at her desk.
I personally think adding race to issues is stupid. This is not the 1920's people. We don't have clansmen on every street corner waiting to oppress you. I try to ignore race and its stereotypes also. But its very difficult when peoples' actions constantly reinforce them so much.
