Everything is rooted.

Locked bootloaders are something else entirely.

Thought I'm not too sure what the worry is these days. Even before the GS3 got a leaked unsecure bootloader, kexcec was pretty mature and worked well.

Rooting will allow sideloading and such. The challenge is installing different kernels.

AFAIK the only thing you can't do with a rooted phone is play rented movies from Google Play.

You don't need to root to allow sideloading except on old phones from AT&T where that was disabled in the developer options.

After owning a tablet with a locked bootloader his statement isn't that much of an exaggeration. I can't get ICS on my xyboard thanks to Motorola locking the bootloader.

Hmm, yep. Just skimmed the article before, title says Bootloader cracked, but neither the article or source mentions that.

got one of these, the screen and speakers really are outstanding. Build quality is also quite good.

confiscated by granddaughter so I haven't tried rooting and loading gapps but its reportedly possible to get play and maps working, and some others.
