I am pretty much retired. I still cover the business, but the next work days are the 27-28 and maybe the 3rd.
Of course I am building our house but that's a choice.

This year I am going to make Baklava for the fair. This is the second one I have ever made. It is not perfect but MUCH better than the other one that I made. I think the one that I make for the fair will be much better. I like light and crispy baklava and this is getting closer.

I am also going to enter fuchsia in the fair also. Never entered flowers so will have to see how that goes.

Thankfully Amazon photos reminded me that on this day is 2022 I had COVID.

Today is the day for our baked goods.

Starting the baklava

How it turned out.

It is a little too wet for my taste. I think next time I make it I would reduce the amount of syrup and see if that is better. I am kind of a baklava snob. Growing up there was a little old lady up the street who made the perfect baklava.

I don't bring the flowers in until next Thursday. Unfortunately my yellow hibiscus flowers decided to throw a fit so there is still time form them to bloom again.

Well got second place with my Baklava.

The problem is we looked around and did not find another baklava. Looked around again and still did not see another one. I think I came in second in a field of one!!!!!

We are giggling over the thought of the judge tasting my baklava and saying "Sure there are no other Baklavas to judge, but this still deserves second place"

The key to having a successful retirement is not entirely based on the size on one's nest egg. The key to a successful retirement is to have the drive to do something that brings joy, is sustainable, and is a positive to overall mental health.

Otherwise, you'll end up sitting on the couch all day watching the 24-hour news cycle while posting in the AnandTech forums echo chamber. Shutters at the thought.

I wonder how many on this forum have achieved the true definition of retired through hard work and growing a nest egg. Not just "retired".

And by not having their nest looted by a rapacious medical complex .
That's easy to fix. Just be healthy all the time.

But yes, medical bills can whittle it down. It's an uncontrollable problem for some. Doing my best to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Everyone is different and like different things. My opinion, when you are retired it to do what you want to do. When I was retiring people asked, what are you going to do? The only socially acceptable answer is "to travel." Although I did tell someone that "I want my time to be my time." To me that is the best part of retirement. (Although to be honest with my son, he takes a lot of mine and my wife's time).

What a stressful and busy day it has been. First off we went to the fair concert last night, even took my son to his first concert, so we did not get in until 10:30. So we stayed up way too late. Then I had to take out some items for a large item pick up from our trash company.

I then had to cut some flowers for the fair. Unfortunately the yellow hibiscus decided it did not want to be shown so it stopped flowering. I looked around the yard and found some other hibiscus that I could bring in. I cut those and the fuschia and took them to the fair grounds. Of course since I was changing things it made a mess of dropping off the flowers. I was able to do that and drive back home. (Actually I had to go to the Mother in laws house because my wife visits her once a week and today was the day, so stopped by there to have lunch.) After that came home and took a nap.

Tomorrow going back to the fair to see how the flowers did and scarf some food. Then taking my son to LA to go to a book signing with Ken Jennings,

Busy, busy, busy.......

Forgot the picture of the flowers I took in the car.
