Just watched it -_- . Great send off.

It wasn't really cancelled per se, they just stopped making it and the actors got busy doing other things. There was apparently enough people asking for a new season and they didn't want to do a season so they made a finale special.

If you enjoy..nerdy British comedy (not really like Big Bang Theory at all) Then yes, by all means check it out. It is a great show.
