The iPhone sucks horribly for this one reason

yes, but it's a hassle. Like I said, I don't want to tear into something just to replace the battery when there are other similar devices that have easily replacable batteries.

How often are you planning on replacing your battery?

MotionMan

It's a valid complain to someone as they want to be easily able to switch batteries out on a whim. Obviously not everyone cares about it though.

It is about being able to switch an uncharged battery for a charged one, or switching a non-functioning battery for a functioning one?

It arranges things entirely by tags. If your tags are wrong, then it'll be wrong on your device. Itunes has on multiple occasions fucked up my tags, so I don't let it touch my music anymore.

In other words, the iphone is doing exactly what it should... it doesn't suck at all. Itunes on the other hand is awful and should be avoided at all costs.

Oh, it sucks plenty. It can't even so much as scroll track info, which every other media device with a screen can do (even text-only). I LOLed at it in the days up to iOS4 when the freakin' pop-up mini player fit more of the track name than the full-screen iPod app's interface, which iOS4 didn't exactly solve: it just got rid of the mini player pop up for devices with multi-tasking (swipe task manager to see playback controls).

And it isn't just music/audio either. I just love how every episode of "Star Trek: The Original Series" says "Star Trek TOS S..."

Even if I truncated them to "STS1E## - " it wouldn't have enough room for the episode names... most would be "STS1E## - The ..."

I was actually wondering what dawp's issue was.

I don't currently have a cell phone and when I was looking at music players, I did consider an ipod for a gift, and the ipod has the same issue as iphone with the battery. I tend to use cordless items until the battery is dead and a easily replaceable battery is a plus for me. that is one of the annoyances of the mouse(a logitech mx1000 that was given to me) I'm currently using, the battery requires me to remove the pads and unscrew the 2 screws. my old one(mx700) has a removable panel that is easy to access. I keep a set of rechargeables for various devices. And so, it would be both, replace dead and bad. I just prefer having the option.

IU had forgotten about this thread after it got moved from OT.

Apple builds stuff which the truly ignorant find easy to get the hang of. The story is different for those who think they know a bit.

Am I understanding you correctly by interpreting that as you condemning Apple for building products which are easy to use? Products which the average layperson can just pick up and within a very short time be able to use. Because that's a ridiculous stance to take. I like Apple products but I haven't owned a Mac in over 10 years but everyone using Windows should be grateful for the GUI pioneering work done at PARC and which was advanced greatly by Apple. Just because it's easy to use doesn't mean it isn't fully featured or powerful.

I don't know about the rest of you but even if a device is powerful, if the interface is crap or it's difficult to use, it won't be my device of choice.

I don't know why, but this post reminded me of how, last weekend, I was not able to get my mother-in-law's automatic sprinkler system into "rain" mode without reading the manual.

How long did you use the iPhone 4 for before you switched?

MotionMan
I have never lost the will to live, therefore have never owned the iphone4, but from playing around with it with the available phones from coworkers, friends, and this inherent ability to read, I was able to come up with the decision and eventual purchase of what seems to be the best phone on the market. If you have the time perhaps I will dwell into the iphones' lack of many things?

Although I have to concede that the retina display is pretty sweet, but not better by that much.

Oh, I assumed that you had extensive experience with the iPhone 4 before making such a bold proclamation.

My bad.

Or, possibly, yours.

Ok, i'll play your game. I don't have to purchase a hyundai elantra and drive it around to know it won't perform like a bmw; to say otherwise is dishonest.

Also, ask yourself these questions and you'll have your answers:

1. Before the iphone "cover patch", did you have problems making calls? How about now?
2. Do you haver built-in radio?
3. Can your phone serve as a wifi hotspot?
4. Wifi calling?
5. Video conferencing? Without bring close to wifi?
6. Can you add more storage space?
7. Flash, do you speak it?
8. 3.5" vs. 3.8" screen, nuf said.
9. Swype! (to be fair, it's a program - but exclusive to android)
10. My phone has a cover, you know, for when I want to open it to say, exchange the battery or, I don't know, swap out the sd card.
11. Active display. I know that's a minor point, but it's pretty cool.
12. I have seven home screens, a dedicated "home button" and some other dedicated buttons to "simplify" things, if you're into that short if things.
13. My main button is actually a track mouse, which is kinda redundant since my fingers are already doing the pointing.
14. I can put just about all kinda media on my phone and enjoy them.

Ok, your turn.

You're turning this into a flame thread. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to phones.

So an iPhone is a Hyundai and the whatever you like is the BMW? Hmmmm.

Also, ask yourself these questions and you'll have your answers:

1. Before the iphone "cover patch", did you have problems making calls? How about now?

I don't have one on my iPhone 4 and I have no such problems.

2. Do you haver built-in radio?

There's apps for that.

3. Can your phone serve as a wifi hotspot?

So others can use my data? No thanks.

4. Wifi calling?

There's apps for that.

5. Video conferencing? Without bring close to wifi?

There's apps for that.

6. Can you add more storage space?

No, but then again, I have no need for that at the moment.

7. Flash, do you speak it?

Do I need it? No.

8. 3.5" vs. 3.8" screen, nuf said.

Bigger is sometimes better.

9. Swype! (to be fair, it's a program - but exclusive to android)

I type fine.

10. My phone has a cover, you know, for when I want to open it to say, exchange the battery or, I don't know, swap out the sd card.

No need.

11. Active display. I know that's a minor point, but it's pretty cool.

Minor point.

12. I have seven home screens, a dedicated "home button" and some other dedicated buttons to "simplify" things, if you're into that short if things.

My iPhone is organized just fine.

13. My main button is actually a track mouse, which is kinda redundant since my fingers are already doing the pointing.

Redundant.

14. I can put just about all kinda media on my phone and enjoy them.

Me, too.

Ok, your turn.

I am less defending the iPhone 4 than pointing out how over the top your statement was. Your phone may be better, but not ">>>>>>>(infinite)>>>>>>>>" better.

"The iPhone sucks horribly for this one reason"

reason = owner can't tag his songs properly?

Thanks for the info, I'll throw my phone in the garbage now.
