The iPhone/iPod touch really needs an option to lock it's accelerometer.

Especially in apps like safari where 1/2 the time you can't get it into or out of landscape mode. There should be an option to choose which orientation we want and lock it there.

Try holding it more upright. I think it's harder to get it into landscape mode if it's closer to being flat (like it's laying on a desk face up)

I agree this works better.

However it just highlights the point that it should still be a selectable option in some apps. The accelerometer is a fantastic feedback tool for games and other immersive environments but in something as simple as a web browser it becomes more of a gimmick or even an impediment when all you want to do it brows the web in one orientation or another. It would be an easy option for Apple to add.

I hate it when I try to lay on the side and surf on the iphone, it would rotate.

Apple designers should have a lock feature.

I totally agree with regard to all similar phones. I'm the same way with my Blackberry Storm. I wish I could lock a certain orientation sometimes. I don't always hold it completely upright and then end up swapping when I don't mean to ... I suppose I'll just have to get used to it.
