The iPad II (2) effect ... crazyness at the Apple store

Apparently today is the release date for the new Ipad. I know because the wife just called from the local mall to report that there was a line a "mile long" at the mall starting at the Apple store and ringing around the whole mall. Apparently these people have been there for hours and still have a long while to wait (5 PM?) until they can buy a new iPad.

You've really got to like something, be insane or a combination thereof to do this.

I can kind of understand the enthusiasm there was for the first iPad, but come on, this one is essentially the same thing with 2 cameras, ports and runs faster.

I'm going to guess that most of those people in line weren't the "I'm waiting for iPad 2" and mainly the "I just sold my iPad for $200 and need the new one".

or maybe they just never bought an ipad1?

I thought the section was called All Things Apple which means if you are talking about an apple product or something about Apple you are suppose to post in there.

Now if you said OMG insanity at the mall's food court this would be the right section.

Sounds about like any revised electronic gadget that comes out only people enjoy being crazy when Apple launches things for some reason. And this is a tech forum, we constantly upgrade shit because it 'runs faster'. 😛

I guess after the Xoom, all other android tablets is just meh since all they can offer is better performance and ports

Amanda Foote, a media studies student at Manhattan Community college, sold her spot in the line to purchase the iPad 2 for $900.

This video says she was waiting in line since 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday to sell her spot. Video

Links to $499 (or less) Android tables with 10" screen, 10 hour battery life, and non-stylus touchscreens?

rooted nook is as close as it gets for ~300 but that comes with time/tweaks/bugs and is almost there but not quite.

time = money

The first iPad was THE tablet that made tablets affordable*, stylish, easy to use for the masses. So it had a "first" thing going for it ontop of the Apple branding. The iPad 2 is nice, I may even get one, but to line up for it like that, just less than 1 year after the first one came out...

Android tablets have caught on, but it has neither the Apple brand or a major "first" claim, so meh to all. Sales aren't exactly blowing anything out of the water either.

Motorola/Samsung: Let's make it run flash and sell 3m units!
Apple: Let's get rid of flash and sell 10m units!

Flash had nothing to do with sales for either. It's principle, and Steve Jobs is a piece of shit.

People who buy Apple products fall into one of these categories:

People who genuinely like Mac OS's best
People who genuinely like the aesthetics of the products
People who think it makes them "better" than those without

Unfortunately the majority fall into the latter. They're retarded consumer whores.

Bottom line: millions of units sold = flash is not that big of a deal as ya'll make it out to be
