I think it is a shame that they had to start doing this,. but in the day when the worst people were streaming were 2CD rips of the latest movie across Torrents, BW was not much of a problem.
Combine that with little to no commercial streaming and HD not being around yet and almost any high speed connection had plenty of BW to give to everyone, even at peak.
Now you get families streaming crap from YouTube, Hulu and Netflix, Torrenting the complete Justin Beeber video music library and the HD version of Fat Momma and (supposedly) downloading a dozen games a month (that each take 40-100 hours of free time to complete ala Fallout 3) and you get a problem.
I do not agree to the rates they will be charging for it, but just like with office sancks, all you need are a couple of douches to start carting home to ruin it for everybody.
The only exception I can see easily passing a 250 limit would be HD streaming every night instead of cable.
And if that is what is happening, and you are taking BW from other customers, why shouldn't you pay more for it?
The ONLY thing that I REALLY object to is simple. BW is worth more at peak hours. they should do, as I said before, like the bridges and cell phone programs. Charge differently with different caps for peak and off peak. Also SHOW THE LIMITS!
Cablevision never told you what the limit was on their "unlimited" service. I had to yell at them on customer service when my BW got throttled with no warning or notification.
If you are paying for something, they should let you know what you are paying for and not hide it enigmatically (with no hard numbers) in the service contract or disclaimers.
Say 50G prime time DL (between 8am and 10pm) and 500G off peak and call it a day already!
