Well, based on the Chicken Run booth at whatever convention they were at, I'm guessing late 2000/2001.

Does anyone have software that can zoom into the pc gamer sitting on the table?

I met John Romero at Quakecon in 1998, he is a really nice guy and easy to talk to. He even autographed a picture of Quake II for me, which was ironic because John did not work on Quake II. Someone at quakecon had printed out a bunch of Quake II screenshots, that is what John had on hand, so that is what he signed for me.

John and I had a great talk about Doom, the Doom music, the way the game was designed, some of the levels of Quake I,,,,, good times.

John is left handed, so a lot of the levels he designed, the first corners are to the left. Quake E1M1 - walk forward and turn to the left to go on the elevator, John designed that level. Doom E1M1, walk forward, and their is a ramp to the left with some armor and a switch, John designed that level as well.

One of my favorite levels from Quake was E2M6 The Wizard's Manse. John designed that level as well. The stained glass windows added a really nice touch to that map.

Ah the 90's, when rock met PC gaming and PC devs didn't complain about piracy because they were too busy with their lambos and blow.

So what ever became of John Romero & Daikatana?

Daikatana was a flop, and John runs a software company. He also keeps his blog updated.

Johns blog used to be called rome.ro but that url currently redirects to planetromero.com. From time to time John will post stuff about the days of Doom and Quake, and it makes for interesting reading.

Yeah man, for all the Romero bashing he really did seem like a great guy. I remember him designing my all time favorite multiplayer map of all time - dm3! Wonder what he's doing these days, he sorta disappeared from the radar.

I loved Anachronox - or at least the story telling, environments, and character interactions. They managed to produce some very poignant scenes with that old engine. Did not care for the JRPG combat system.

I so, so, SO wanted to love that game. But I couldn't drag myself past the very beginning. I heard that it was wonderful past that, but I just couldn't do it.

*sigh* Now I wanna play it again. I still have the disc.

There were some post on Johns blog about games he is working on, but nothing like what he did with doom and quake.

John has not updated his blog since march - http://planetromero.com/

I visit there a few times a year and dig through his post. One of my favorite topics is Doom - http://planetromero.com/tag/doom John talks about stuff with doom you are not going to read anywhere else.

After ion storm went belly up, who got the rights to the Deus Ex franchise?
