Ofcourse they are sometimes right, they are guessing things left and right, eventually they get lucky.

Fecal Matter Crystal Ball ?... You are Hilarious Tal...always a good bit of humor...!

I have been hinting at this future for a couple months now, and this is why:

1,) nV has insulated them self thru Partnerships from their Direct Customer... Their reason for Existing.

2,) nV reference MOBO's, and Virtually all Video cards are Built by Foxconn. The Bill of materials is strictly controlled by nV.

3,) The Partners are responsible for Warranty, and Tech Support, They Rely on nV for Drivers, and BIOS Support.

4,) If there is a design issue with Item #2 The partners eat those issues until nV owns up, and acknowledges these issues. (Don't hold your Breath!)

5,) nV seems to be having high RMA rates with the 280 GTX, and some of the other cards that have been built over the last year, and it goes back to low fan speed on numerous products, and burning out VRAM.

6,) Because the feedback loop is broken in Item #1 nV does not apply lessons learned well, and are out of touch with their end customers.

When you get into a warranty situation like EVGA (IE:680i) did last year, you can bet that nV helped them, but it was the exception.

The Partners are in the middle, and the nV gang is a very slippery group.

I know from my personal experience with BFG, and fighting with nV

The Margins are extremely slim on all of this, and the Grand Nagus Huang gets the lions share.

Heh, doubtful. I'm going to have to start doing Tech Support for ATI cards too? Yeah right.

Thanks Mr Fox...
I aim to please :{) - mustache smiley.

the lovely thing is that they don't actually specify WHOM is involved... just "someone", giving vague prediction is the FIRST rule of fake fortune telling. if you are vague enough you could be interpreted as correct no matter what the outcome is.

But seriously though, I heard rumors that the big players might offer AMD cards as WELL as nvidia soon. And that was before the inq's article. (which, oddly enough, says no AMD). I wonder if there is any validity to those.

Anyways... defecting is TREASON! Court martial them and then to the gallows they go!

Sounds to me like they are going to make some more money by moving to Intel chipsets on motherboards. Which support Crossfire. Thus, it would only make sense at some point they start selling crossfire video cards after their customers start asking for it.

I like EVGA. Their motherboard's I stay away from because they don't make them and barely support them. The 680i was the most supported mobo from them in history... because it was expensive. They won't or can't fix the NF4 SLI series of mobo's bios issues because they were built by Jetway. PCI HOLE still exists on the NF4 SLI Mobo's from Jetway and EVGA and despite many people on their forums and numerous talks with tech support they can't fix it.

Nvidia mobo's a dark art these days. Too expensive for the really nice ones and not enough market share for the really nice ones like the 750i FTW.

I think Hardocp is got the right idea. Once Intel steps in this might change and most likely will (money talks people) and the greedy nvidia will be placed where it belongs, down under...

More ATI cards with lifetime warranty, eh?

by the generous and altruistic intel? who charges 1500$ for a chip identical to their 200$ offering but with a 20% faster default clock and unlocked multi? who did not innovate at all until AMD put the heat on them? who now designs nehalems to be impossible to OC (according to rumors)...

Yes, lets cheer for the possibility of intel killing nvidia, all hail our new and benevolent masters!

If the chips are indeed the same, then take advantage of it and buy the $200 one! ;)

What company isnt greedy? I seem to recall a recent pricefixing lawsuit that is aimed at more than just NV.

Be careful what you wish for because I would rather not go back to the days where Intel could charge whatever they wanted for their chips and hardware.

It would be good if Evga and XFX started selling both ATI and Nvidia cards.. maybe they'd do a step up from an Nvidia card to an ATI card or vice versa :D

I'm sure there will be lots happening in the next several months after the new offerings are released.

Other than ATI/AMD, there really isn't any other realistic option right at this very moment.

There is VIA/S3, but they can barely compete with the absolute low end offerings from AMD and nVidia, so that means it seems like they're just trying to produce cost effective niche cards capable of complimenting Vista.

My guess is that if anything, EVGA and XFX might be arranging a deal with Intel to sell Intel NB + nForce 200 SLI boards.

If it's true that the only way SLI will run with Nehalem is with an Intel NB + nforce 200, this deal would have most likely been made with NVIDIA's knowledge (blessing, even). I'm pretty sure NVIDIA wants their top tier AIB partners to continue to produce, sell, and support Intel SLI boards even if they aren't producing the NB for them.

EVGA has a very long history with NV (EVGA is celebrating its 9th Anniversary), and I doubt that they would jump ship just because ATI finally got a card right after being the underdog for almost 2 yrs.

I believe that by definition price fixing involves more then one company. You can't really blame a company for being anti-competitive with itself.

this is what the rumors all say, that nvidia will bring SLI to the nehalem platform in exactly that manner.

I'm thinking you're spot-on, Nitromullet. My thought was that EVGA and XFX could potentially be motivated to feed bullshit to Charlie due to his bias. What you're saying makes more sense though IMO.

NV really messed up by limiting the adoption rate of SLI. They should be thankful if intel wants to implement it for free like they do for AMD. There's no technical reason why both standards can't work in a single motherboard.

I would say it is more than likely that Evga and XFX are making Intel based chipsets than anything else.

Im sure buying reference motherboards from Nvidia that arent exactly fantastic nowadays wasn't as lucrative as it should be. If they begin manufacturing Intel based chipsets theyll have more freedom for customization of the layout and components, and of course, pricing.

It's fairly unlikely that either of them would stop making Nvidia based graphics cards.

Producing Intel chipsets is a step away from selling NV based graphics cards. Perhaps down the line they will. Selling cards with the best GPUs available at the best margins is in their best interest. They're in business to make money, not to serve NV or AMD.

Still cheaper than tri-sli... (thanks to ATI you can get it for less now)

You don't need the highest end CPU to have a great gaming experience. I dare you to say that about GPU's if you had a monitor of a resolution of 1920x1200/1080 or higher.

the nature of CPU limitation is such that you cannot lower the resolution and graphic settings and expect to lower the demand on your CPU, so if you have CPU induced lag your only option for smooth gameplay is hardware upgrade.
If you have lag due to the GPU being too slow you can just lower the settings until it IS smooth. not as pretty, but at least you can play.

Let me rephrase this for you, since you didn't get it the first time.

Intel charges 5x price (Q9770) for 30% performance increase (over Q6600)
Nvidia charges 2.5x price ($419 GTX 280) for 80% performance increase over 4850/9800GTX

And yes, even triple SLI is cheaper, and we are talking 200% + performance increases there.
