Broke my streak of not ordering from Amazon. Need a magnet so I can fish out nails and screws from camp fire and added fittings I'll need eventually anyway, to get free shipping. That magnet may be overkill but I will be putting it inside an ABS pipe with a pull stick, idea is for the nails and such to stick to the ABS and not direct to the magnet, then I pull the rod and they fall out. At least in theory I think it will work, will see in practice when I set it up. I was going to do a big electromagnet but this seems easier and requires no power.

Careful so you don't smash your fingers between that and a large piece of metal.

lol yeah big magnets like that have serious power. That got me wondering if couriers even handle these differently. Like if someone has a box of hard drives or tapes will they make sure not to put it next to the box with a giant magnet in it. Or if I had ordered hard drives would they make sure it's sent separately.

They package them and allow enough room for the magnetic field to not interfere with other items, most really powerful magnets have warning labels on the boxes. We use a lot of magnets and when they arrange them in tubes alongside each other you can crack your fingers pretty good in between them. For example: https://www.eriez.com/Americas/Prod...ets/Plates-Grates-and-Traps-/Tube-Magnets.htm

Neodymium magnets can cause serious injury, even ones very much smaller than the link. And it's a very bad idea to have them laying about if you either have kids or they come by from relatives. Their bones are much finer and will crush more easily.

Does it have the straight 6?

Looks like a 225 Slant 6 which quite extensively used in the days. Best engine ever built by Chrysler / Plymouth.

the Chrysler 225 Slant-6 was a common engine offered in the 1976 Plymouth Valiant, known for its durability, reliability, and compact design. This inline-six engine was canted 30 degrees to the right, allowing for a lower hood line and improved engine compartment packaging. The 225 Slant-6 was a popular and long-running option for the Valiant, providing strong low-end torque for its era.

I like inline and horizontally opposed engine designs. Seem to have better low end power and durability.

Yep, you should be good for another 11,000 miles. 😉

Yeah I've played with HDD magnets, even those have potential to be dangerous. This one is going to be enclosed in plastic so that nails can be more easily pulled free from it. I have used HDD magnets for nails too, works well but it's a bit more tedious to remove the nails by hand.

I had a 1962 Plymouth that had a Slant 6 225 engine. I tried my best and couldn't blow it up. Was a great fishing / camping car.

I sort of miss my '66 Belair. There was no hope though. I put money into rebuilding the engine but then the transmission went and I didn't have that kind of money at the time.

Eventually got the '84 CRX and pretty much blew that up. Oh well . . .

Started clearing some of the tree piles a while back on my property and it was a crazy amount of work going back and forth on uneven terrain to haul tree branches to the fire. Was thinking of renting an excavator or other equipment to help but it's crazy money, like $500/day minimum and that's not counting delivery so probably add another $500 for that.

Started looking at various options to make my life easier, each option increasing in price. Then said F it... and ordered an actual trailer kit off Home Depot. Will get use out of it with the ATV but also with the truck.

Comes up to around 1k after taxes and I figure I might put another $200 or so into it to complete it. will make it a flat deck with wood sides. Will get lot of use now that I don't have a 8 foot bed anymore for my truck. I eventually want a 16ft or even longer trailer but those start to get very expensive, so that's a purchase for later. I figure with the 4x8 I should be able to haul 12 foot lumber as long as I add extra weight up front to balance it out. I can work with that and design my buildings around that.

Bought an iced mocha from our little local coffee shop. Except this time I tried it with oat milk. Not bad...The last few times I've gotten the iced mocha it's just been regular and it's been messing with my gut so this time I decided to try it with the oat milk. May just go this route from now on. It's the little things...

Purchased several tickets today in an effort to finalize our trip to Italy. The most recognizable is to the Field of Miracles which is home to the leaning Tower of Pisa.

@nisryus back in early July you had asked me about which hotels we were staying in and at the time I could not provide to many examples. We have now expanded our trip to Italy to include cities like Rome and Siena.

Anyway, here is a link to my Onedrive account with a Word doc that has our "almost" finalized itinerary. lol The hotels and VRBOs that we are staying at in every city are in this doc. Hope it help!

And of course a pic of the tickets to see the leaning Tower of Pisa.

Just ordered an 85mm drum for my new winch. It'll haul faster at the expense of capacity. Got it off ebay ~$20 cheaper than typical places.

Yea, they're super cool. Patronize them as much as you can. They're having money problems, and need all the customers they can get. It would be a shame to lose a treasure like them.
aaaaand just got an email that they're partially closing.

Dear Surpies,

It is with a very heavy heart that we are writing to tell you that it's time to say goodbye. The next two weeks, up until September 7th, will be your final chance to order from us at Sciplus.com and (888-724-7587), as we will be closing our mail order warehouse. (See below for store info)

For nearly nine decades, this place has been so much more than a company to us. It has been a community built on discovery, invention, friendship, and shared passions. For the last few months, we have been struggling to keep our doors open. Thanks to all of you, we were able to hang on for a little while longer, but despite the incredible efforts of our team and your unrelenting love and support, our situation has not improved to the point where we can continue.

This will be the Jarvis Farewell Tour on www.Sciplus.com so before we go, please take advantage of the incredible daily deals coming your way. We still have a lot of stock left that we must move from the whs, and we want it to find good homes. Also, please be sure to use any gift certificates you have by September 7th, as they will no longer be valid for online redemption after that date. More notices about the closing to follow.

The Future of American Science & Surplus Stores: While we were unable to find a buyer for the Parkridge store, which will be closing towards end of September, we do have some good news. As part of our closing, we are working on keeping The Geneva and Milwaukee stores operating by selling the stores to remain open as employee-owned and operated locations. We are so excited for them to continue the legacy of American Science & Surplus and we will keep posted on that progress.

Thank You: From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. This company was founded over 88 years ago, and I have been lucky enough to be a part of it for 41 wonderful years. We will miss you and this place more than words can express. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.

Please click here to read more of our story and why we made this difficult decision.

Sincerely and with the deepest appreciation and gratitude,
Patrick Meyer & American Science and Surplus Team

Night Always Comes - 2/10 - A complete trash movie on Netflix. Do not watch it. ALMOST as bad as Jurassic World Rebirth.

EDIT:

Whoops, wrong thread!
