My 19 year old DeWalt miter saw is on it's last leg, armature is almost burned out, so I bought the new Skill 10". It's a lot of saw for the money.

Wow that's a good deal! I have a nice sliding mitre saw my grandpa gave me but have not actually used it much yet, it takes up lot of space so it's been stored away, will take it out when I finish my shop. I have a smaller Ryobi one I use more but I find the stops are not very accurate, if I need a very square cut I'm not getting it without lot of finessing with the saw and a speed square to get it dead on. Good enough for framing... lol.

If it lasts it's a hell of a tool for the money. Cuts are right on out of the box, even came with an acceptable blade.

I've been a DeWalt guy for years, but now that there isn't five people using my gear every day, I'm a lot more concerned with performance and price. There is no way in hell this new saw will last 20 years, but it's likely I won't last twenty more years.

Unfortunately a bottle of kombucha won the battle against my logitech g915 wireless tkl and took out a couple of keys

got the Logi G915 X Wireless TKL - some of the upgrades are great - USB-C port finally! double shot PBT caps vs the ABS caps which were kind of annoying. Low-profile keys over standard keys - I'm converted.

Speaking of wood prices I was pricing out 2x12's and HOLY CRAP! Around $68 for a 16 footer. I don't know if that's always been that way or if this is still inflated prices but youtch. They probably have to import those so probably why they're so expensive. Been brainstorming on what I want to do for the floor for my cabin build and that's one option. I may actually just spend a little more and put in a cement slab, that way I can turn the first floor into a shop/garage and maybe even eventually put in a car lift. I've always wanted to get more handy when it comes to working on cars, it's just I'm really not well setup for it here in town. For upper floors I could use I joists as they won't be close to the ground and potentially subject to moisture.

I eventually want to setup a saw mill, but for now I'll just buy the lumber from a local mill so I can get building quicker. There's a mill here that sells 2x6x12 for a super good price like $6 or something like that compared to $16 at HD. I will probably buy several skids of those and design most of my build around that size lumber.

Moen magnetic handheld shower head. Bought the same one almost 6 years ago. Was way overdue for replacement. I forgot how easy it should be to switch between the different spray settings lol.

Err didn't try soaking it in vinegar solution overnight first to decalcify?

  • It was 6 years old
  • Done the vinegar soaking a couple times in the past already
  • One I bought was on sale for $27 at Amazon. I paid $44 from Home Depot 6 years ago.

Pulled the trigger on the Kobo Clara B&W e-reader and will be selling my Kindle. All my Kindle books are downloaded, will be stripped of DRM and loaded to the Kobo. No more buying books from Bezos either, just me groceries lol Also Kobo is a Canadian company! Double win!

This was kinda impromptu but I just hosed my Win7 install while trying to update the Nvidia drivers and decided it's probably time to upgrade to 10 anyway instead of trying to fix the install.

So ordered a 2TB SSD since the current one is 256GB and I doubt Windows 10 will fit on there + games. The current SSD is also an OCZ Vertex 3 and those had issues, so maybe that's actually what I'm running into with the driver install messing up.

This is how I feel about Nvidia right now after this driver issue:

For now...

The US has historically been *very* fortunate with electronics prices. Also, "stuff" in general. The biggest thing we get fucked on is medicine.
I may have bought a bunch of stuff recently to prepare for the long winter of price increases.

The conversion puts that drive at C$ 168.77.

I always think I'm getting a good deal until I find out what prices are on US based sites, always hurts to see how bad we get screwed here. Exchange rate doesn't help especially right now as it's really in the shitter. Definitely ads to the price.

The other day I was pricing something on on Grainger and accidentally was on the US site, that was a kick in the face when I realized that.

In 2008 it was cheaper for me to self import a 2006 MB E350 4Matic from Peoria, Illinois, pay airfare and road trip for two, the duty (10.5%), exchange rate (33%), gst+pst (13%), pay MB Canada CAD$2000 to change out the dash so they would honour the warranty then buying the the same car same mileage in Canada.

I've read about that, it's a shit ton of work dealing with doing that, but it does end up being way cheaper.
