Had to buy a new dryer dammit. Delivered yesterday. Old dryer just couldn't wait to die for another 3 weeks. Nooooo.....had to almost catch on fire last week. And I'm NOT taking my clothes to a laundromat if I can help it. So had to replace the darned thing....and cost a lot more than I wanted to spend (which, if I'm being honest, is ZERO).

I quit using a dryer a few years ago. Mine died, and I prefer hangdrying anyway, so I do it 100% now. Can be a hassle working around rain/cold, but it hasn't been bad, and it costs nothing aside from some new cord every so often.

I should probably look at cleaning mine after 10+ years of use. Sometimes lint can get stuck in places before it gets to the filter.

Also need to look at some kind of heat recovery system. Basically wasting 3kw worth of heat by venting it outside. For like half an hour of use per week in average it may not be worth the trouble though.

It seems like they did a reasonably good job with the screen. There's alway a visible dip where the split is though. You don't really notice it. At least I don't, but I seem to have this preternatural ability to screen things out - except when I really need to (f'ing stupid ass brain).

I was hoping that opening and closing would result in a satisfying detente-type click. But for this model (don't know about previous ones), you can half fold it so you can stand it upright to take a picture.

Also, for such petite little thing, it's pretty heavy. The "drug" scale says 189.1 grams or 6.7 oz. That doesn't sound very heavy until you stuff all of that mass into a very small package.

Now that Samsung seems to be actively promoting this model, you've probably seen the commercial where a girl seems to balance the phone, half-folded, on a steel bolt. She's not balancing it. The phone has an internal magnet that just loves to grab onto other ferrous item when, say, you lay it down on a desk with a lot of other ferrous items.

We really don't realize how much our society relies on iron-based alloys until you start tossing rare earth magnets around.

Actually bought this last year but only ended up taking it out of the box recently. What prompted to buy it is needing to drill holes into unistrut as part of my solar system modification but then the snow came and I kinda pushed that to now. I'm bad for waiting last minute for outdoor projects.

Went hunting for Midwinter's Night Dram from High West (rumored to be showing up at MSRP) but didn't find it. A few nice, and very reasonably priced, things followed me home though.

Just got a Nest Protect from the Google Store last week with my $200 credit for getting the Pixel 7 pro. But it has different packaging. It is the wired one with battery backup but it's a different box, also has the two checkmarks to differentiate between wired or battery. Weird. No way Google is selling 1st gen still so it just must have been older packaging you got.

Having it installed Thursday. Don't have a ladder to reach my high ceilings and no garage to store a ladder in even if I bought one. No more dog getting scared of the smoke alarm when I cook though - can manually turn it off while cooking high smoke recipes

ha. I can see that. Luckily I have a much smaller home, though a couple 5's would be nice and all I'd need. Definitely add the sub. A good sub changes the game. I hook up my phone via bluetooth to my 3.1 system with an SVS sub and that sub really changes the dynamic of the sound - it's also fully controllable via an app with volume control, presets and a parametric EQ and other well done settings.

Seems like a nice ability - definitely a benefit of owning your own place. Cooking smoke often makes my dog hide, because of a touchy smoke detector in our old place. Our current "luxury" rental (aka, built in the last 15 years) seems to have a really good detector though that has never gone off in any cooking smoke. Even still, I got a HEPA air purifier with a charcoal filter a few weeks ago to use when cooking, and we also have a dual window fan that can be set to circulate or exhaust to help clear out smoke.

sounds like your smoke detector is better than what came with my place. I looked mine up, it's the sensor type that is supposed to have less false alarms while cooking, but mine must just be a generic builder grade one. If you plan on living long-term you could just install it yourself and leave it or take it when you go, or even ask the landlord/property management if you upgrade would they take some of that off the rent.

I do like the fact that if I'm not home and my detector goes off, I will get an immediate alert on my phone.

I put an ecobee thermostat in, but that's about the extent of my upgrades. We're probably in this place for maybe 2 more years, then onto wherever where my wife will do her residency.

Plus, it's kind of a larger management company running the place - I don't think they're that open to those types of negotiations. And since our smoke detector doesn't cause issues, no reason to rock the boat.

Welp, decided to pull the trigger on a wood stove and ordered it online just now. Pay day was this week, and well, it's spent now lol.

I still need to buy the chimney parts, that's another 2k or so, and I need to prep the area it's going in but think I'm just going to make a cement pad, I can always tile it later. I will wait on my installer to buy the chimney parts to make sure I get all the right parts but I pretty much have a good idea what I need. I could DIY but decided to hire someone so I can be sure it's done right, so that will cost me an extra 1k or so.

I figure around 5k when everything will be done so it's a big upfront expense but it will pay for itself in about 3-4 years at the current natural gas prices, and they are set to go up again this winter.

Actually excited at the idea of being able to heat with wood. I run across good wood all the time and think "I would keep this if I had a wood stove". Some of that wood is still on the side of the road now, I'll have to go back for it. I will probably have to buy some seasoned wood for this year though.
