Not every book is written to be a literary masterpiece.

I'm only about halfway through Catching Fire, and she while it is a very enjoyable read, it's obvious that she's not attempting to do anything extraordinary. I don't even happen to think she's a good writer. But she is a good storyteller.

So why don't you go find a book that is written by a good writer as well...

I finished reading all 3 books this past weekend (also on my Kindle (Fire)) and saw the movie this past weekend also (I'm a 32 year old male, married with a son FWIW) and I can't say I disagree.

Some amateurish writing without a doubt in the 1st book but I do think in ways they improve as the books go on.

I couldn't help but feel like they were written by a teen age girl that didn't have enough years of life experience to know how to properly put on the pages what people would really do and act like in situations.

But in the end it was a bit of an immature in writing and content yet overall enjoyable set of books that all combined were less words and pages than many books I've read.

Well, if you really want to know...(1) I happened to be on vacation last week, which gave me the chance to sit down and read for the first time since last summer, (2) the book is obviously popular at the moment with the movie out, so I happened to hear about the premise and it sounded interesting, and (3) my girlfriend wanted to read it so I thought it would be something fun to talk about and fun to see the movie together after.

It's still a fun read.

The Hunger Games series was a fun, quick read. I enjoyed them quite a bit. I think that the movie was a bit over-hyped because of the popularity of the books. Not everything that is popular is worth a damn...see Twilight as an example there.
