Based on responses from another thread. How many ATOTers are HR folks as well?

If you're going to hate on HR, feel free (you won't get a lot of argument from me) but please keep it impersonal to thread participants.

I guess you could classify me as someone that works in public relations.

Am I a human resources person? Nope. I don't think I would make it working in HR. :p

No, Public Relations != HR

HR = Human Resources

Totally different. The only thing that HR would really have in common w/ Public Relations is Recruitment.

<---- HR

I'm not in HR but I've only run into two types of persons who work there. Either a sociopath or a very understanding and caring person. ;)

Based on initial responses, none of the smart....alecks here will admit they know what you're talking about :)

I've always worked at small companies, so HR was just the office manager and I've never had a problem with them.

So let me ask you this HotChic-

What possessed you to get into HR?

My job kind of "fell on my lap"...fresh out of college, good pay...etc...but now, I feel like I'm "stuck". I'd like to move out of my current-state but it's not like Human Resources is a terribly easy field to get into, ESPECIALLY in a new state where there are different laws to learn and abide to.

Did you get fired, or just a written warning? ;)

I don't think anybody sets out to get into HR, and those that do don't stick around too long. ;) Mine was more or less an accident - my dad accidentally wound up in recruiting (with a background in music and comp sci) and I helped around the office. The experience landed me my first job and it kind of ballooned from there.

If there's a large company, there are plenty of HR jobs that aren't focused on the legal aspects. If it's a smaller company, you wind up as jack of all trades.

I like to smack my HR lady on the @ss and call her toots......of course she's my mom, so she doesn't mind much.

Oops, in my line of work, HR means Human Remains. Flying cargo means flying dead bodies sometimes... and we just label them "HR".

*shudder*

you wouldn't say that if you saw my mom in person. People say she's a slightly older Cameron Diaz.

how much do HR folks make, I have always wondered, compared to a Senior Engineer in a company, how much would a senior HR person make
