the hot deals forum scares me

So many hours a day spent in the HD forums... so many tears shed there too....

I personally enjoy beating "the system". I'm not one of those a-holes who screams if he gets rejected for a PM. I'm very assertive when I do my business. I also have the tendency to hit the store over and over again if I don't get the deal the first time around. Different staff have different policies. I have a >90% success rate on deals because I know which one's I have a good chance of successfully completing. I come "armed" with a sales ad from a competitor, print outs, their policy... whatever to get the job done. A lot of the newbies on the forums don't go out with anything and expect BB or CC to just to take their word for it without any proof.

Refering to the CC deal, in my past experience CC don't price match anything unless it is advertised and no rebates involved. This is the reason why I took extra pleasure in buying a Western Digital 120GB HDD from them a few weeks ago for $9.99 AR.

Best Buy - I love them. The one near me will price match anything if they don't see their own rebate. (I think one of the girls that work there is really cute too)

OfficeMax - I love their deals. I hate one of the managers that work there, a total b!tch. Their workers seems to think so too. Everyone that works there is really friendly

Staples - I really like them too. I love their rebates, I always get them <4 weeks total. The Staples managers near me are real classy guys.

OfficeDepot - I really like this store too. However, I havn't been to this store a lot. Whenever there is a deal... PM's and purchases go off without a hitch.

CompUSA - I'm not too fond of this store. They hire the most lazy people in the industry. The door greeter dosn't look he wants to be there, no one wants to help you on the floor, and if you ask to check for stock... 90% of the time I doubt they even look for the item because they always claim it's OOS... even though I called CompUSA that morning to confirm they have many in stock.

Circuit City - Humm... how do I put this? I only go in there with the intent to rape, rape, and rape the company.

BTW, I always read policies carefully. If they don't pricematch internet sites... I won't even mention it. Also, if there is some sort of limit restriction written somewhere... I won't even say anything more then "okay, thats fine". The trick is to know which battles you can win. There are a lot of people in the HD forum that don't know how to do this.. thats why they always get shot down.

I love how you can work the system.

1) Buy hard drive from Best Buy, keep hard drive in the car, keep the BB sales receipt with you.
2) Buy the same hard drive from Circuit City paying FULL RETAIL (gasp), wait for the rebates to print out. Put the hard drive in the car, along with the rebates, keep the CC sales receipt with you.
3) Waltz back into CC go directly to customer service requesting a 110% PM against BB using your BB and CC receipts. Most of the time the CC CSR is unaware of the rebates and grants the PM.
4) Go back to BB and return the hard drive.

😀
From what freesia39 is saying, she won't oblige you, even if you argue for a half hour.

I'm bailing on this deal. I ordered one from CC yesterday, and it is still OOS. BB was supposed to receive some last night but didn't. OfficeMax has none in stock. Nothing is going right on this one!

my favorite guy today was the one who argued for a good half hour. the second was the one with the printed pricematch policy arguing. (all ideas taken from the thread). my next favorite was "what is considered local? is (this town 15 miles away?)" "no it is not"

15 miles and it's not considered local? What is consider local then?

i am a female CSA at a circuit city (the ones they're targeting in their PM trials.)

perhaps i should go witness protection. people hate me because their deals are getting denied.

*runs and hides*

i don't let anyone threaten me - i just reiterate exactly what i've been told - best buy is not in stock, etc etc. i can't really call a local best buy because their caller ID actually shows up as a circuit city store calling. once anyone starts getting loud with me i just call a manager.

btw, as of last nite we still had quite a few of these HD's at my store in LA. (i won't tell you which one hehe)

I don't argue in the threads that much, but Circuit City is horrible as honoring their policy. Once they had the same price for a product as Best Buy, but Best Buy's price was with no rebate while CC's involved a rebate.

Best Buy was out of stock, but the price was advertised in the ad. So not wanting to deal with a rebate, I just figured I'd go to CC and have them pricematch it. Would they do it? NO!. I argued for like 10 minutes, finally got their supervisor who did the PM but would not give me 110% Price-Match. I argued for another 10 minutes, they called like the manager and he gave me a 120% pricematch. I mean, it's one thing if you're trying to screw the company over, but when they won't honor their own policy, it's pretty sad.

I <3 Office Depot though, they don't care what I do. I can PM to one store, get a rebate and then they'll go, "Hey, you're getting this for $5!" and then I see them leave their stations to go pick up some for themselves 🙂

What do you mean by saying that they don't honor their policy? If BB doesn't have it in stock, pricematching it or not is at their discretion, it's part of the policy; And they don't have to pricematch on products with rebates, it's also their policy.

i'm guessing here but..

you go to UCLA

there is a circuit city 4 block south west at 1145 Gayley Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90024-3423

your name is cindy ly

are we getting closer?

You are the exact type of customer service rep I was talking about. Your starting assumption is that people are trying to rip you and your store off. All I want is my legitimate pricematch and guys like you struggle to come up with ways to deny it instead of just giving it.

Why do you care? If you died, would they put up a permanent monument to you for all the customers you ripped off? I don't think so.

You should start with the assumption that most people are honest.

If a deal is non legit, the csr will get in trouble for the pricematch. I work at cc too, i pricematch crap all the time, but i check it out first. If everything is good, no problem, but if my manager tells me not to pricematch a certain store, and you want me too, i dont give a fvck, im not going ot pm the store. My opinion might be that we should pm x store, but i sure as hell am not going to get in trouble so you can save some $$. sorry-
