The horrible story of my freshman orientation.

I worked a year after high school, 3 jobs, to save money, but eventually ended up moving down to my school for a summer semester so I wouldn't be so far behind.
During that summer before moving into the dorms I lived in an apartment with a guy who had graduated from my HS a couple years before me which was pretty fun.

The weekend before orientation we treated ourselves to thai food from a local joint. I got Pad Thai with chicken, and something in there was not right. Fever, puking, diarrhea, exhaustion... I was not well.
I had started to feel a bit better, but knew I shouldn't bother with the orientation. I called the office to make sure this was OK, and being a young impressionable lad, believed the b!tch when she told me that attendance was mandatory, and there was no way I could miss out on it.

The morning came, and I wasn't too bad, bit wobbly, but I took a shower, and headed out to walk the couple of blocks to the student center... I arrived, and started chatting, making friends. We were given a "5 minute to presentation" warning and the smokers among us headed out for a last cigarette.... As I sat smoking, I began to feel a bit rumbly... "oh no", I thought, "this isn't good".. it progressed, and I was feeling pretty faint as I rose, I knew I couldn't make the bathroom, in a bit of a haze I headed toward a trash can...
I didn't make it.

There, in front of the entire freshman class, I passed out, and somebody thoughfully called an ambulance, But that's not the best part....
Even though I passed out, my body had already commited to urgent evacuation, so when the paramedics found me in a ragged heap next to the garbage bin, I was covered in my own vomit. They cut off my shirt and transported me to the hospital for fluids and observation, where my roomate was kind enough to pick me up the next day.

Perhaps because of this, or my own inability to overcome the embarassment and detachment I felt from my classmates along with a bunch of other factors, my college career was short-lived. A year later I dropped out. That was thirteen years ago...

I am only posting this because I have just finished my pre-reqs from a junior college and am transferring to a univesity to finish my degree. Today is my orientation, and I feel fine.

Cheers, wish me luck :)

Cliffs:
- Ate bad thai food
- Went to orientation sick
- passed out and puked all over myself in front of entire freshman class
- dropped out at the end of the year, that was 13 years ago
- Just finished at a junior college and am transferring to uni.
- Today is my orientation

Update: Made it through without puking or crapping myself.

...Score one for me!

:)

My wife brought me a new shirt because I had a nosebleed on this one... I know.. I'm cursed... whatever...anyway she brought me the kids leftovers so I had macaroni and cheese and steamed broccoli... I was a bit wary about the broccoli, but I figure I'll spend some extra time in the john before heading over, and hopefully clear it out.

Thanks!

We finally got to a plateau where time and finances will allow us both to return to school.

Too bad you're not someone I dislike... otherwise I'd point the finger and laugh at you... still.

After seeing the "massage" thread, I thought you "evacuatated" out the other end...

And ugh, hate Pad Thai and Thailand cuisine...

I think I would have gone straight home from the hospital, and tried somewhere else if that had happened.

I think my worst moment was passing out mid leap from the hood of a car during freshman week, evidently all I could say was "Give me another Quaalude, I'll be fine."

No freaking idea how much I'd had to drink, & I've never taken a Quaalude in my life.

Good luck with school  (and don't drink anything the upperclassmen hand you that they've mixed up in a gallon jug)

horrible story that it may be, congrats on getting to the point in your life where you can go back and finish; and double congrats for actually GOING back. Many would get to your point and not bother.

sad but i kinda laughed a bit at the story. I'm sure you get harassed by your wife about it all the time.

When I woke up the paramedics were over me, and were asking me questions to see if I was coherent... They asked me my name and address, then the guy asked me who was president... for the life of me I could NOT remember Clinton's name, I was just freaked and out of sorts.. I knew it started with 'c' though so I said, "I can't remember, all I can think of is Jimmy Carter".. They must have thought I was seriously high......

Gah... even now I'm embarassed.. :p

Wow, hell of a story man. I'm going back to college in January as a freshmen at community college after failing out of two other schools. I'll be 25, should be fun.

Damn thats a crappy story, but glad to hear the end was bright!

Maybe you should have passed on that cigarette? It probably caused you to feel worse alot quicker!

During my orientation we(parents, students etc) were all sitting in this huge rec room. There was some top 40 tunes playing on the speakers. Well someone popped in an Eazy-E cd and started playing "Give Me That Nut"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dntm6mCAsDY

The reaction from staff and parent's was fing hilarious.
