Sales are at a 16 year low due to competition from imports, and they think this is going to help a company that is struggling due to competition from imports? 😉

Seriously though, I hope this helps GM in their recovery. I look forward to the day when I can proudly buy an American car again.

Meh...the VE Crummydore is dead ordinary and much worse build quality that the BF series 2 Falcon...although ten times better than any American made car.

Funny...windows and ABS have worked perfectly on every GM I've owned or every person whom I've known has owned one. And it is GM's fault some bolts need loc-tite to minimize future hassle? 😕

Now, are you a Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus whore?
And how many GM's have you owned in your lifetime?
Past: 95 Grand Prix, 95 Pontiac minivan (Don't remember the model...), 99 GMC Sonoma
Present: 2006 GTO, 1992 Camaro

My best friend and his father swear by GM. Every car they own except a mid-90's Maxima they got for free is a GM. 95 Silverado running perfect to this day, early 90's something Buick as well. 93 Camaro in that mix as well.

So you didn't answer my question.

EDIT P.S. GF's 01 Saturn L200. Forgot that one, sorry.

Every car I've ever owned, my GF has ever owned, and my parents have ever owned are GM's. No problems at all.

personally when I see something like lausey or camero or break pads in a car thread; I move on.

It makes me wonder really...if GM is smart enougth to offer Americans better quality cars like the Australian made crummydore, why can't Ford offer American's the Falcon?

High end Mustang performance in a 4 door RWD sedan...or wagon with BMW build quality and you have your choice of 290kw Quad cam V8, 270kw Turbo Inline 6 or a 190kw base Inline 6....what more could any family man want?

I would not be surprised if they did bring one over for 2009 or 2012 when the Mustang gets a fastlift, and a redesign respectively.

In other news Ford cannot keep up with the demand for AWD Ford 500's.

probably the same reason ford doesn't sell their euro-spec front drivers here: no one is paying more (or even the same) for a ford than a toyota of the same size. the base falcon is US$27,300. the most spec'ed out ford sedan you can buy today costs that much.

i'm also guessing that with an overhaul due in the near future, it wouldn't make sense for ford to import the things, sell them here, and then have a completely new bodystyle a year into it.

if i were in charge of ford, in addition to bringing over the front drivers from europe for mercury, i'd bring over the rear drivers from australia for lincoln. once the styling is fixed, that is.

They better make a 4 door mustang. They should bring the falcon over.

FFS no they are not and people who know the business knew they never were. every 5 years or so someone starts this rumor.

It's because of three reasons.

1. Too costly to convert to LHD.
2. Would require major work to fit US safety regulations.
3. Fords suck... Zing!

just to add I have no brand loyalty. It's the cars not the maker that produce the best.

I have owned (*) , driven:

1986 Chevy Citation

near 86 LTD

88 Legend (awesome sex machine)

1966 Mustang GT (* but dad paid for the full restoration after my 4 figure buy in dryed out).

some kind of crown victoira from the late 80's/90's

some Mercedes from the late 80's/90's with an illegal door holster for a .357 magnum. Drove this as a kid to take my boss' car in for new tires. He called on the in car cell to tell me to please remove the gun and put it in it's case under the passenger seat and hold on to it (I was underage at the time to possess a handgun at the time I think, still about 17-18). He had to cross a dangerous bridge each night to get back home from the office. At least 5 people were killed there that year. It crossed into the Island of Palm Beach with uber homes. Many that passed that way owned car guns.

8x Ford Ranger (that almost killed me)

9x mitsubishi precis (* bought my dad out of the 66 GT when it got wrecked and not my fault and a major family debate)

1988 Mustang GT T-Top (*) almost full FMS. Fun car, however; the 1966 GT scored just about any chick I wanted.

1986 Accord DX hatchback (*) College car

9x RX7 GSL or GXL I think (*) DX was wrecked by a old woman

92 Acura GSR (*) real after college car in 1995.

97 VW GTI VR6 (*) bought new in 96, everyone loved this car.

96 Camaro RS (*) bought new in 96 for my wife at the time, I got a good deal, but still was raped IMHO. My wife at the time torn it's front airdam off a couple times.

96 Saturn SC2 Classic (*), great car...if it was rear wheel drive 🙂 Sold it at a major loss. While back in school in 1999/2000, it proved to be a great car. People here and smart on cars dog Saturns. However, many I met thought it was a much more expensive car.

00 Saturn SL2 (*) my wife's car, she loves it no matter how I want her to upgrade it now.

99 Toyota RAV4 L (my mom still owns this with about 60k on the clock)

00 Toyota Tundra

'05 Ford S-Crew F150....

0x Acura MDX

96 Eddie Bauer Bronco with a 408. 🙂

98 Nissan 240SX SE (*) possibly my favorite car of all time.

00 Porsche 996

probably some I forgot.

00 Porsche 996 (non-turbo, but with aero)...my most absurd driving session. Everyone even here in Palm Beach County wanted to talk at lights or was checking the car out. One redneck even pulled behind me with a train horn.

It could probably be sold for a lot cheaper than that in the US...we get taxed to the shithouse on new cars...not to mention the fact that manufacturers use the excuse of a small customer base to keep prices inflated considerable.

the price inflation shows up on new cars the most when you have a look at how much it depreciates once you drive away from the dealership.

Never had a problem with GM regulators or ABS and I've had my truck for ~3 years and it's just as solid as the day I bought it. 😕

Doesn't Honda have a problem with window regulators as well as their SRS.

you don't know much about Australia do you?

We model everything on what the US does...even down to our design regulations which do comply with US standards..which is why not a lot of work is reguired for Aussie GM cars to be sold in the US...the Falcon has to comply with the same laws as the Commodore.

Then why is there a gas tank in place where there should be a very large trunk on my GTO?

The new Commodore was designed from the ground up for future export to the US, this generation Falcon was not.

what you need to know is that the Falcon uses a lot of parts from the Mustang....if we can convert Mustang's and Taurus's to RHD here and sell them, then the "ALL POWERFUL" US should be able to do the same to the Falcon.

Sounds like another excuse from a lazy American to me.

Don't worry about it, he is still stuck in the age of Domestic cars having a lesser quality than imports. True in the past, now just a myth.
