Story

For a few months now, we?ve all been wondering why there?s been such a cloud of secrecy from Guillermo and PJ regarding progress on The Hobbit. Well, today we got wind of what could be the biggest story so far about this much anticipated film: a report that negotiations are under way for a third film!
Hmm...The Hobbit was never meant to be anything more than a children's novel, it's not nearly as deep as LoTR. Do we need it to be more than 2 films? I really like Guillermo's work, but more doesn't always necessarily mean better.

Just marketing BS to take two longish movies and make 3 shorter ones and make more money off of them, horrible.

We really only need one LOTR length movie to do the Hobbit properly anyways...this is just way overkill and money grubbing from the movie studios.

I mean I can basically read the book in one sitting...unless they flesh out some of the more nebulous details linking the Hobbit to LOTR, there really is no legit justification for doing this

Yeah, I'd say it's a bit of a stretch for three movies. I can't remember the exact chonology of the book but one movie might include the beginning up until the escape from the Misty Mountains. A second book would would then go until they arrive at the mountain. And maybe the third would encompass the rest? I think the latter two could be combined but there is the battle at the mountain which could easily stretch things along. *shrug* I guess with the LOTR set we take it for granted that the texts are so dense they have to take out a lot just to get three hours.

I remember going to the movies back in the 1970s to see the animated series. It was fun. :)

I am looking forward to it since its with Guillermo.

This.

Those in doubt see Pans Labyrinth!

Or Hellboy 2.

That said, you have to remember Ian McKellen and especially Christopher Lee are getting pretty old, so if they're going to appear they better move fast (Ian McKellen is pretty much a lock).

even 2 seems stretching it.

QFT. The hobbit is shorter than any of the LOTR books which each fit into one movie.

barely.

and not really once the extended versions are considered.

Doubtful. If they're releasing more than 1 movie they'll probably release them like LotR- 1 a year.

Well they can't release them after 2012 since that's the year when the world will end.

That will be easy to stretch into 3 movies. They just need more footage of them walking.

Seriously... they'll never top the old animated movie so why bother?

Shit... if Spock can do it in less than 2 minutes, why do we need 3 movies? this

It was a good story, but not THAT complex. There's basically the Shire, riddles with Gollum, and the dragon.

Tom Bombadillo!
