The Hobbit Has Been Cast

Well, partially anyway.

Here they are:

http://aintitcool.com/node/47150

Martin Freeman – Bilbo Baggins
Richard Armitage - Thorin Oakenshield
Aidan Turner - Kili
Rob Kazinsky – Fili
Graham McTavish – Dwalin
John Callen – Oin
Stephen Hunter – Bombur
Mark Hadlow – Dori
Peter Hambleton – Gloin

No HUGE names on the list, some well known in England, others getting their first worldwide exposure I'd say.

The lack of big names shouldn't be a problem. FWIW, were any of the cast from The Fellowship of the Ring really 'huge' superstars with box office clout when that project was greenlit? I just knew Sean Astin as the guy from Encino Man. Didn't really know any of the others apart from Cate Blanchett and she only had a minor role.

You should know Sean Astin from Rudy not Encino Man.

There were many EXTREMELY well known actors in Fellowship. Not superstars but the rest of these people you should know more than Blanchett.

Hugo Weaving

Liv Tyler

Viggo Mortensen

Ian McKellen

Christopher Lee

Ian Holm

Sean Bean

Snookie would make a great corpse.

I can see them entering the Dragon's cave now:

As the great beast slumbers atop his golden hoard, we notice clutched in his mighty talons: the bloated, rotting corpse of Snookie; her putrid flesh darkened and limbs stiffened with rigormortis, her final mortal act frozen for ever in what we can only assume was a final, desperate attempt to mount the dragon's mighty cock.

Anyway, it's good to see this project is green-lighted.

New Zealand needs their Peter Jackson-dependent decennial GNP injection.

I'm still trying to figure out how they're going to split it into two movies. I know they're supposed to add in details to lead into the trilogy, but I'm just not sure how they'll adequately split it up.

Filming still might be moved elsewhere, they haven't resolved the actors union disputes.

They're trying to move production hahaha

well, they are mostly Kiwi actors, right? so this will, at least, keep the NZ Thespian guild employed for 2 or 3 years.

(whether or not it's on union).

And his production crew. They are almost all NZ, right? He should be able to bring back all the post work to WETA, if the only dispute is with actor's union, right?
