The Hobbit - does this movie get any better?

Finally getting around to watching this. Loved LOTR, but thought the previews for this movie looked incredibly childish/silly. The movie, thus far, is fairly terrible. I recognize The Hobbit story is more 'kiddish' than LOTR, but please tell me this gets better.

We turned it off last night when a bunch of dwarves were biting at the knees/ankles of a few trolls, while the trolls were jumping up and down going 'owwie' or some nonsense. For as much as I love watching dwarves sing and stack dishes, is this movie really worth finishing?

LOTR is probably my favorite movie trilogy of all time.
I can't watch the Hobbit again, I've tried.

I like the Hobbit, I also like LOTR.

you should finish it OP, the trolls and the goblin king is a bit out of place though but overall I like it.

It is about half as good as lotr (but that's still pretty good). The dumb thing is they made it into two movies. The book wasn't that long or intricate.

They essentially made a more kid-friendly version this time, I thought the hobbit was absolutely terrible.

The hobbit i found somewhat childish but not to the point where i would turn it off. To call it bad does a disservice to the word; bad is reserved for such movies as star wars eps 1-3. The hobbit is nowhere near that league, it actually has a cohesive storyline. Definitely not as epic as lotr though.

Oh and the reason the first one was bad is directly related to the material. The book starts off like that and gets better the further along you go. The second and third movies should be better.

The Hobbit as a book goes was written more for a younger audience. It had a lot of songs, goofy stuff in it, and was not a complicated book at all. Straight forward. LOTR was a more serious book, and had goofy stuff in it as well (Tom Bombadil - which was cut from the movies for it being too silly - but he was a character that hid Frodo from the ring wraiths before he appeared in the Bree town where he met Aragorn. But the entire time of him protecting Frodo he spoke in Poem/Song form) in the beginning. Then it he decided writing it to be a bit more dark. That is just Tolkien writing. If I remember right, he was an adlib writer, and didn't plan anything out in his books. He just wrote as he felt at the moment. My guess as he aged things just took a certain approach and went down certain roads as he wrote.

That said I haven't watched The Hobbit movie yet. But I have read the books.

Well, you'll be happy when it's over. The sense of satisfaction that a person gets when some prolonged suffering ends can't be ignored. Otherwise, no. The movie doesn't get any better as it goes along. And along. And along. And along. And along.

I'm in the minority here. I actually liked the Hobbit - an unexpected journey, slightly better than the LOTR trilogy. LOTR trilogy is still very damned good though. I'm excited for the next movie.

Those birds at the end of the movie should have dropped them off a few mountains away. Epic FAIL.

The Hobbit reminds me of looking at someone's vacation videos.

"oooh....look at this scenery! And look at THAT scenery!"

I didnt think i would like The Hobbit since it seemed a bit childish in the trailers. And it was in scenes. But once i finally rented it i was surprised i enjoyed more than i thought i would. Ive never read the book either, not sure if that helps or not. I enjoy the world but do wish it was a bit more serious like LoTR series was.
