The Helpful Man at Tuttle Mall

I am the man with a tattoo of baal hidden behind
a cashmere sweater, with shoes polished
to a military sheen

In the crevices of my mind, wheels turn --
hanging nails, chapped peeling skin,
flesh ripped from flesh,
in the mirror

I can see you now -- your tire deflated
your weak pulsating fingers wrapped
around the jack, pumping
your car into the air

I am lurking in the open, under the light in
the mall parking lot, and you see me
and beg a puppy dog smile
and I offer to help,

to let your fingers pulsate elsewhere, while
I lift your car, and beg your mind
to come closer to the
mirror

Can you see me now? In swaddling clothes
I come to you to beg to you to thank
my external love. Can?t
you see how

much I need to rip my flesh from flesh and
let my mind be swaddled in your
flesh, and in my flesh
to let my mind

begin to see the outline of my polished shoes,
my cashmere and my khaki pants
and love that begs to beg
to wipe away
my butcher?s knife
my strangling noose.

and about 15 minutes from where I live... but this is the first i've ever heard of it. Good story, though.
