You just need the Logitech driver software. You can download Logitech Control Center for free here:

It even lets you program the mouse on a per-application basis, so in your browser it can be forward/back, but in Photoshop you can do zoom in/zoom out!
 
Gonna try this when the distros get updated to 10.5.7 - I need 4800 series support 😛. Is it pretty easy to do dual boots now?

As long as you have separate drives for each OS, yeah it's pretty easy. Same-drive dual-booting from partitions is still difficult - there aren't any simple bootloaders for managing FAT, NTFS, and HFS+ all on the same disk yet.
 
Can anyone recommend a cheapish laptop that will run OS X? I'm thinking about tooling around with some iPhone development. I know the Dell Mini 9 works well, but it's just too small to do development on.
 
I am thinking about the switch too. Never thought I would consider paying over $1000 for a laptop in today environment.

Anyway, there are a few essential software I need on the PC side, I don't believe these are available on Mac so please correct me if I am wrong.

Google Toolbar (for online bookmark, translation into chinese, and search)
VLC (for playing ISO and whatnot format video)
WMC (for watching TV)
MSN messenger (I believe there is a mac version)
DVD shrink (ripping DVD)

Any mac equivalent for software listed above?
 
VLC is on OSX and works wonderfully.
MSN can be used through either the actual MSN client, or I use Adium (all chat programs combined, will not do iSight)
DVD Shrink can be replicated using... Roxio Popcorn, ripping: Handbrake
 
If you already have a TV Tuner, you can get ElGato's EyeTV software. It works pretty well, not sure about any free alternatives, though you could, and I sort of hate recommending this, install Windows in a VM just so you can use WMC.
 
Kinda weird that Apple doesn't provide a native TV software.

Installing Windows on a mac kinda defeats the purpose really. Maybe Apple will implement such thing in its future OS. Another 3 years perhaps?
 
I find it kind of ironic even the "Apple TV" doesn't actually include a TV tuner or DVR capabilities. Apple would rather have people buy TV shows from iTunes than provide a free solution.

Also Media center isn't exactly 'free' from MS either. In order to get it with Vista (and probably 7 when it ships) you have to buy the premium/ultimate versions of Windows, not the basic. Third party does offer some nice free solutions like GB-PVR and Meedio.

For the Mac, EyeTV is amazing. It's more expensive than the Windows alternatives to set up (especially with SD cable and sat sources/tuning in addition to ATSC) but once you bite the bullet and get everything needed to make that work, nothing is better.
 
I just installed Leopard on a p35-DS3L and everything is running fine. Using it to run applications like maya and 3d coat and they work well. One thing I found interesting is the sound. I use digital out to connect to my pc and on windows, both xp and seven do not sound as good as in OSX . The sound is much crisper than in windows. No EQ or anything enabled. Using on board audio. Does OSX stream straight from itunes to digital ? Thinking that maybe that may be the reason since Windows is hard to get straight digital out without it being processed by the mixer.

I'm planning on taking the dive. This is my tentative wishlist with a lot of redundant parts. Just need to know if it'll work or how to make it work. I plan on using the efi-x solution, seems the most amateur friendly. I can build rigs, just never tried my hand at a hackintosh.

Should I spring for an i7 at this point? I've noticed the cheapest procs in that line rival the Core Quads prices. I don't want to spend more, but if compatibility is the same, and it helps to future proof the build a little more, I'd like to start there.

It won't work, the Core i7 isn't compatible with the LGA775 motherboards, and I don't know how compatible the LGA1366-based motherboards are for hackintosh systems...

Of course, when PCs adopt EFI instead of BIOS, the chances are the motherboards will support LGA1366 rather than LGA775 so you can reuse your CPU !

But by the time it happens, you'll want a new machine anyway, and who knows, maybe Apple will have come up with an affordable mini-tower, so you'll simply buy it 🙂

The Creative sound card doesn't have OSX drivers, AFAIK.
Plan on using the motherboard sound.
Spend the money on a SATA optical drive, instead of trying to use an IDE optical drive: "NEC 3550A burner".

Even if I use it as an external USB opticial drive? That's how I've used it the past 3 yrs?

 
I am fairly new to the Hackintosh scene, I got my Shuttle up and running with Kalawy 10.5.2 combo. And it's great.

I have an issue with the onBoard network card which is a Broadcom Netlink, it is giving me a MAC address of 00:00:00:00:00. My router is kind enough to let me surf the web but I have other networking issue that I think are caused by this.

I have spent a long time googling around and looking through tons of post on InsanleyMac but have not really come up with a solution.

I did fin a .kext file that is supposed to be correct but I'm such a novice I don't know how to install it. I copied it to the extensions folder but that's as far as I got.

Any help would be gratefully received.
