$150 for an AK-47? Man, you can get them cheaper than that here!

you can? i don't think so

I've seen shops that have them for sale for less than $300, on the street I wouldn't be surprised if you can get them for $150 or less.

Well, there are a few differences.

Yes, there are a few AK-47 style hunting rifles for sale right under the $300 mark; I would suspect that used, or at a gun show, you could pick one up for $200.

But the ones at the bazaar were combat ready; full auto, hi-cap mags, folding stocks.

Is there any reason to believe that they have anything to do with the Taliban?
The sad thing is, with virtually no independent press in the area, our friends and enemies are who our military tells us they are.

Typically when our military is involved in any combat against dark-skinned people in that part of the world, military press releases universally include a snippet about "suspected ties to al-Qaeda", "suspected insurgents" or "suspected Taliban". With no press, there is nobody to investigate or question those charges. In actuality, they probably have as many ties to al-Qaeda as Saddam did: 0.

Where??

They are $300-$800 around here...

I could've sworn that I saw them for cheap at the last gun show that I went to. I didn't look too closely. But I guess my point is, I'm surprised that they're $150 in Pakistan. I mean, isn't that like a lifetime salary for these people?

You're thinking of an SKS those can be had for that price at gun shows. I have never seen an AK clone for under $300. I paid almost $400 for mine.

It really is sad though, and in some african black markets they can be had for $20-$30

Yeah. I paid about $300 for my WASR2 AK-74.

There's a reason that no army in the world has ever conquered (or kept conquered) that part of the world.
Uhh...
The Mongols controlled the lands about as much as Karzai does. Just because you're sitting cushy in the capital doesn't mean you have any influence over the tribes or the pass.
