At the moment both companies bundle 2 decent games, AMD also gives away Blood Dragon, but that''s hardly the biggest incentive.

Which recent drivers?

Crossfire aside AMD's drivers have been stellar since July of last year.

Also, 2 decent games? What?

I take it you mean on the Nvidia side?

Metro: Last Light and AC3.

I'm not so sure that the drivers are that stellar. I mean you would agree that in terms of hardware on the cards, AMD ought to have a lead across the entire range. Yet in many recent games, even their own sponsored titles, they don't.

Yeah they sorted out performance on BF3, but across a broad range of titles and in a reasonable time frame after release? No, they haven't.

AMD bundles 3 games.

What are the issues you are having/had with the drivers?

Even on a top end 7970GE still looks like 3 to me:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0GHz%20Edition

Yep, you're right. I never even checked the game deals out but there are 5 games and only select ones per card.

So it's 3:1

What about the driver issues you are talking about? nm, wrong thread for this discussion.

Like I said, where I live you get 2 games bundled with Nvidia cards, for a while you even got the free2play bundle as well. So the overall value of the bundles is pretty similar for me.

AMD buying ATI has really hurt us also. ATI used to be willing to go cheaper on GPU's because they didnt have a debt mountain

Except for the time they sold the HD58xx series. Remember? They were priced so low and AMD was supply constrained so they could never keep them in stock.

You are clearly upset about the cost of graphics cards. I think you should just buy a console, because it would certainly be more productive than complaining on the internet.

Prices are crap this generation, I bought the PCS+ 7950 near release for $330, and now many custom cooled 7950 is still around $300.

There's nothing to hint at next-gen being better for perf/$ either.. with gtx770 based off gk104 dies. Typically the 770 is a cutoff top-end GPU, with near top dog performance. What we end up getting is a 780 based on a castrated Titan which is a castrated gk110. It's not even next gen at all but kneecapping their rip-off Titan and trying to bring it to the masses. You can understand why they did it, TSMC with a 550mm2 die, imagine the yields (lack of) and the excess chips piling up which didn't make it... its gotta go somewhere!!

Ultimately, 30% faster than a 680 for $599 is not progress. We're gonna approach the 2yr mark for this gen, and if you cant get something that's >60% performance for the same price point, its sad for consumers.

Fermi refresh(580), NI(6970) were ~15% improvement. Kepler is different because "the big chip" came late. Don't expect big 60% improvements without a node shrink though.

While i agree with u, the reality is the focus has shifted from the desktop market to the mobile market, so u can't really blame these companiesnfor going where the money is. There's no more profit to be had from the desktop scene, its all about efficiency & the mobile world. These ppl wanting more performance are in a minority, most of us are satisfied with video cards out now & the market reflects that. Its the reality of the world we live in.

No I'm not, but I also recognize that spending weeks complaining about it will change nothing. And you've been at it for quite some time in this forum. What have you accomplished? Global awareness that video cards cost more money? Just buy a console and get on with it.

Maybe I'm just not so egotistical that I think pricing should be based around my needs and not global market forces.

There's lots of things I'd like to happen, but I don't go around complaining if they don't.

Because crying on forums is what previously got Intel, AMD and Nvidia to lower their prices on Core Extreme, FX-62 and 8800 Ultra ^_^

I paid $270 for my 7950 with 3 free games. Gouging not found.
If you over spent for a graphics card this gen then that is your own fault.

Agreed. Instead of steep prices drops, both camps are trying to include more enticing bundles. AMD went after the North American / Western Europe crowd with traditional AAA titles and Nvidia went after the fast growing F2P market (with a high player base in Asia). AMD price gouged with no competition, and readjusted after Nvidia came to market. Nvidia's prices have remained relatively stable (10% off their gtx680's and gtx670's original MSRP, 15-20% off gtx660ti). This is actually how the Geforce 500 series played out as well. The Geforce 400 series saw deep discounting because it was short lived and had some thermal and customer perception issues.

Personally, if I was in the market for a graphics card, and saw that many of the cards were coming with multiple AAA single player games, I'd rather have that than a $30-40 discount.

yeah if you want to play those games then its great but don't count on selling them for very much if you dont. there are so many game codes right now that its silly. I have seen people selling 3 game bundles for 25-30 bucks. I grabbed Crysis 3, FC 3 Blood Dragon, Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider all for just under 40 bucks.

Actually thats exactly what changes companies pricing. Also review websites saying things arent worth the money also hurts sales. If people understand that a product isnt worth its asking price then they hold off purchasing.

If you give them other solutions which are faster and cost less money they will also change their purchasing habits. I bought a 460 1GB SLI because people on a forum were showing that its performance was insane for the money.

So have any of the specs besides the vram buffer/buss width been confirmed yet?

(To any strapping gentleman who forgot to take their meds and are feeling a tad confrontational, no, I have not read the whole thread and don't know if this has been discussed.)

Not that I'm aware. So far there's only been those initial (rumor) details.

If the 780 is only 10 days out they are managing to keep a pretty tight lid on it so far.

This is pretty much how the gtx680 launch was. No one knew exact price or performance until a few days before launch.

I seem to remember a lot of people "knew" that it would be 40% faster than the 7970. Because they "knew" that it would be based on GK110. And then when this turned out to be a fantasy, the same people "knew" that it was because NVIDIA "didn't have to compete with AMD after the 7970 was such a let down." But I digress...yes, just like that launch, no-one truly knows anything. Wisest is he who knows what he does not know. Dumbest is he who is a fanboy flaptart

It was very well known 3 months before it was released that GK104 would be the first chip out of the gate. Every major tech site, reputable or not, had detailed information on the die itself. The "gtx680" name wasn't known until about two weeks before the card actually came. What I specifically remember, especially on this forum, was that no one thought a <300mm^2 GPU from Nvidia would be able to compete with or beat Tahiti.
