Does this movie have anything to do with the ring? In the previews that girl crawling down the stairs looked like the girl from the ring.

Almost all Asian Horror has a scary girl with long black hair. It traces back to a demon in Japanease mythology. It has nothing to do with The Ring story wise.

Any More info on this? Thanks.

IIRC, its traces back to a female Demon/Zombie of death called a "Hisa-Me". I read it in a mythology book at the library, where it stated that this "Hisa-Me" is still used today in most scary stories, TV, and Movies. It had an illustration basically showing the same pale deathly looking girl with long black hair covering her face.

I couldnt find anything on Google for the 30 seconds or so I looked however.

I haven't seen the American version yet, but the Japanese version was good. Only reason i haven't seen the American version yet, is because i can't be scared in theatres... something about watching it with hundreds of people just kills the mood for me. I find it much scarier to watch it in bed, with the lights off, at 1am in the morning. The Ring scared me so much i took my gun out to go to the washroom.

this movie sucked. wasn't scary in the least. The Ring was quite scary, but thisa was more laughable than anything.

I feel the opposite way. I hated The Ring and thought it sucked yet I loved The Grudge. Different strokes for different folks!

The grudge was horrible. So many holes in the story its not even close to being good. See the Ring, its way better

You guys need to watch the Japanese version.
US versions are ruined by special effects.

Japanese version was 100000000x better than the american. Much scarier.
I almost wish they had just shot the american version shot for shot the same as the japanese.

Loved the Ring and also love the Grudge. Just saw Grudge 2 nights ago and so far the 2 times waking up and the first time going to sleep I was seriously mindfvcked, just couldn't get the character out of my mind.

Highly recommend the Grudge to anyone who loves horror.

I didn't like the American version of The Ring, but probably because I had already seen and like the Japanese version (english subtitles).

haven't seen The Grudge, is this the one with the weird ghost voices like 'get out of my house' ? anyway it got terrible reviews so I haven't seen it yet

I give it 3 1/2 stars. I'd probably have given it 4 stars if I hadn't seen The Ring before.

I second that motion. I laughed almost the entire movie. Now whenever I hear my cats screeching I start laughing. What a horrible movie.

Different people react differently to "scary" situations. For instance, The Exorcist, in my opinion, was pure garbage. Almost as scary as a Freddy or Jason flick.

The scene in The Grudge, when the girl sticks her head up into the attic and then the face appeared, scared the living bejezus out of my roommate and I when we watched it. Then we decided not to continue. Maybe its just the kind of background you grew up in. Americans = zombies, living dead w/ weapons, poltergeists
Asians = drifting spirits, female ghosts w/ long hair, Aaron concert

Be careful in the potty with your gun! ;)

**SPOILERS** Just watched the Grudge last night with my wife - we were both pretty scared. The face of the girl is f'n scary, especially the first time you see it when it (she) kills Yoko. How would you like to go like that, getting your jaw ripped off? Ouch. I enjoyed both this and the Ring - I like to have the sh!t scared outta me. I'm sure there was some Grudge action last night in my dreams but nothing major. Good movie though, on par with the Ring and that's saying a lot for me. I love Sam Raimi's work, all the way back to Evil Dead. SMG was kind of a wuss, I agree... I can't believe she didn't try to protect Doug at the end when the thing was crawling on top of him. Dish out a roundhouse Buffy, come on! I give it 4.5/5 horror stars.
