"yeah dont worry about that programming class, you can pick it up in your fourth year if its still a requirement then"

kathryn: 1
java: 0

*kat. <-- dropped the class earlier this semester cuz she just couldnt do it and it was driving her crazy (literally)

<< Proudly cheering for the FIGHTIN' WHITIES since 13, March 2002. >>

hahahaha
i love the daily show.

*kat. <-- just noticed that now.

java or javascript?
I learned javascript in my advanced web design class.
Spent most of the semester though learning how to do corporate web design projects.

My Academic Advisor screwed me over when I was an undergrad. I never took a class she didn't schedule yet somehow when it came time to graduate I got a letter two weeks before graduation saying that I had too many hours in my major. I went to talk to my advisor about it but she had suddenly decided to take a sabbatical in France for a year. I ended up speaking with the head of my department and found out that I had 6 too many hours in my major and that to balance it out I would need to take 6 hours of anything the next semester and graduate then. I was really pissed, raised all kinds of hell but I was stuck. Ended up taking an Intro to Theater class and a Golf Class. Needless to say I never studied and pretty much stayed drunk and partied the entire semester. The main drawback was that it did keep me from being able to enter my Masters program when I had scheduled to. I later found out that my advisor had done this to about 15 other students and that's why she got the hell out of the country. The university ended up terminating her via Western Union.

What's the moral of this story?

1. Don't trust your advisor
2. REALLY don't trust your advisor if it's a woman. 😉

did she do this maliciously, or was she just a retard? most of the advisors in my school are retards

Sounds to me like the score is Java 1, Eakers nothing.

It seems to have kicked your ass all the way out of it's class 😉.

Hah hah!

Seriously.

You'll never move ahead by running away.

On another note, it's kinda sad to see the trend in secondary education slither its way into "higher" education. (I'm talking about reclining standards.)
I don't know if it's to inflate grades or because of lazy faculty, but the comment "if it's still a still requirement then" is lame. Any program where a programming class is required should keep it there -- it builds character, and allows you to make lovely "ArrayOutOfBoundsException" jokes at Christmastime.

haha, love the #2. 😀

Who knows? She always seemed like an intelligent person and was the #3 professor in the department.

Trust your advisor, but certainly "look over his/her shoulder" as well. You should be able to get a list of requirements and check by yourself that you're on track for graduation. Also, please note that for some universites the requirements for graduation are "the requirements that were in place the year that you started." Not to rain on your parade, but even if the Java class is not a requirement for the program when you graduate, it may still be a requirement for you (i.e. your year class) since it was when you started. Be sure to check that kind of thing out with someone in your university.

But it's also a good idea to identify your strengths and weaknesses, and fail cheap. If she knew that she won't do well any ways, I think it was a pretty smart move on her.

BTW, kat, what's your major?

java is very easy.... for some people...

as for taking it later... why does it make a difference other than the requirement?
it's not like people's brain improves over time with java unless you're taking other computer classes...

Plus its a gamble because it might still be a requirement. And if she has to drop the class for any reason, she'll delay her graduation.

<< Glad you got what you needed but I always thought learning Java might be cool. >>

see teh thing is they want you to have programming experience for another class where you have to work with this program called maple.

im currently taking this class and kicking ass in it even though my programming background is limited to wee little bit of VB.

i admit it, java did kick my ass and i was dreding taking it again next semester and had a tutor lined up for it and everything.

some people just cant program.
im one of them.

*kat. <-- doestn care that she quit.

meh. There's wisdom in knowing what you can and can't do and if all the class is going to do is bring down your GPA, it's not worth it.

<< BTW, kat, what's your major?

that's what i was gonna ask 😛
>>

mathematics or statistics

i havent decided yet.

*kat. <-- has no idea whats shes doing really.
