I still use post-its all the time. There are times when I need to take the post-its with me to someones desk, or if i'm jotting down serial numbers, or if the phone rings and my computer is off/locked or whatever. So no, post its are not obsolete.

People forgoing simple sticky paper post it notes for computer based ones, are technology slaves, nothing more. You're so engrossed in technology that you use it when it isn't even necessary or intelligent. The idea that when I need to scribble down a phone number in like 2 seconds while on the phone, should be done by computer and is more easy/effective on a computer is just mind boggling to me. OP is a fool.

I will be talking with people who want to provide me with some piece of information either verbally or on a scrap of paper. I will politely ask them to e-mail it to me (from the computer in front of them or the iPhone in their hand, for example) and I will get the .

Sadly, I have to honestly tell them that if it is not in my inbox, I will probably forget about it in 5 minutes.

I am a software architect/engineer. We are an agile shop. One of the things we do when we are planning our backlog/release and looking at teams/sprints/stories, we use sticky notes and a HUGE wall.

We get everything on sticky notes and work through our plan for the release. There is no other way we could efficiently get it done. Using just a whiteboard would be a nightmare to move things around. Sticky notes work great.

For the most part, all the great creative people who produce their finalized work on computers typically come to the realization that computers are a very poor way to start.

Brainstorming sessions and other early work are much better done with a pen and paper (or post-it notes). It's way more tangible, flexible, and engages your brain more.

Of all the "save the world" things out there I'm still amazed how tress still rank up there for people.

It's been proven that recycling paper products is worse for the environment than just using new product, which is purpose grown just to be cut just to make paper goods just to be replanted.

We have more trees in the USA now than we did 50 year ago.

That said, I do not see the point of using post-it notes like some do and I use my phone or outlook mostly for reminders, task, etc..

But some people just do not like doing things this way and why in the fuck should I care what THEIR preference is?

I'm not conceded enough to think that my way should be everyone's as well.

Forest area is greater now than it was 100 years ago. There is no "tree shortage". Logging is an industry. Loggers plant 3-5 tress for every one they chop. Outrage not found.

I see this as a non issue. More weird is that someone would get bent about it.

In any case, I use both. Though, not post it notes, but old paper that was printed for one reason or another. I just cut it into quarters (usually) and scribble away on it as necessary. Notes on a computer are fine too, but I tend to have paper around 90% of the time, whereas a computer is around 50% of the time.

I love people like this. If I was your coworker, what you just said tells me the amount of importance you place on what I have to tell you (you are basically disrespecting me), and you are also incapable of functioning without help from others. Good to know who to trust for future projects.

Another thing I love is when people email or call me to ask to resend them something because "They can't seem to find it." No, you just want someone to act as your secretary, and you didn't even bother to look for it. Go organize your own shit.

Post it notes and paper in general isn't going away anytime soon. Why? Because some tasks are faster, more convenient and, easier to share on paper than on the computer. I see crap being done on computers every day that could be done faster and more efficiently on paper. Some folks think everything needs to be done on a computer because their company spent a boatload of money on some proprietary software that hasn't been upgraded since Win 3.1
