Wth did i just watch? That was terrible, especially with the modern music thrown in.

I never read the book so don't have any other frame of reference

I read the book 3 times and I agree that the movie was horrible. The music was weird as hell....

Not a classic, but another great recent book, The Kite Runner, was another one which was turned to crap when it got Hollywoodized

My Aunt had been raving about waiting on it to come out last year, she is a retired literary professor.

It bored me personally, yeah.

I haven't asked her, but must have been the same feeling when I saw Starship Troopers the first time and it fell into the toilet.

DiCaprio is a great actor and has been in some great flicks. He has more range than other actors, which I like and who have won oscars, but who essentially play the same characteristics every time - like Denzel Washington.

The music for the modern adaptation is a common complaint. Rightfully so.

Comparing movies to the books they were based on is a recipe for disappointment.

Starship Troopers is a perfect example of this. The book is one of my favorites, but the movie goes in a completely different direction. Judged on it's own it was a fun, b-movie action-fest. Compared to the book it fell woefully short.

I read the book in high school and couldn't understand why it's considered an American classic. I also read Of Mice and Men around the same time and absolutely loved that book.

I mean WTF. the music of the period defined the style and substance of the changes happening.

Not a huge fan of Baz, but I will probably see this just because of Carrie Mulligan. :wub: I liked the book as a kid and I even liked the Redford flick, so I may get something out of this one; I just hope it is not as bad as Moulin Rouge. That was an awful movie.

Modern Hollywood can't give a book like this justice anymore. If you want to see how Gatsby should have been done, then watch some Boardwalk Empire. The movie industry can't "risk" a movie that is done properly with actual drama and a slower pacing, so now if you want Godfather-level content you are looking at premium TV series.

Haha, I thought the same thing. Especially during the stupid car driving scene. What can you expect from a movie that has an Exec-Producer that is Jay-Z?
