Godfather is WAY better movie than LOTR. I even doubt it deserves number 2 spot.

You'd be surprised, but IMDB.com's top 250 list is pretty much dead on with the general population and critics' choices as far as movies are concerned.

I didn't even think LOTR was that great in the first place, certainly not better than The Godfather.

I see a post from Dildo Baggins coming.....

There's no BEST movie. It's like the music-thingie. It's in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think that you can compare movies to music. It's not even close.

You can't compare a 4 minute song to a typical average of 1:45 for a movie. There's much more involved

didn't watch The Godfather but LOTR: FOTR is a pretty cool movie. Certainly one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. :)

i was reading the iso news forums and this is the 178 minute version.

i guess this is the dvd they send out to critics for the oscars and what not. it apparently has "copyright 2001 new line cinema" popping up at random intervals. no biggie though.

Yeah. I got that too. It's 4 SVCD's, 3 hours about 2.8 gigs or something. The quality of it is *amazing*

what about an album? 74 minutes vs. 105minutes.

If I like the Fantasy Genre, LOTR will be the best movie ever, but I maybe not like The Godfather. If I like..... Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet, Titanic might be the best movie for me. Know what I mean? It's all personal preference IMO.

I really didn't like the Godfather much.

LOTR was great, #3 on my all time movie list.

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) The Iron Giant
3) LOTR: FOTR
4) Star Wars: A New Hope
5) The Matrix

I'm a geek. :)

I still have to see this. I remember the WSJ gave it a glowing review when it came out...saying it is more of an adult film than a kiddie cartoon.

I was surprised when I first saw that too, but you're right. The only problem is it's growing increasingly biased towards more recent films since people are now aware of it as a resource and will now go and review a film as soon as they see it. Older movies don't get that benefit so it'll become increasingly less representative IMO. It's kind of like the whole issue with inflation and box office sales.

Definitely see it! :)

It really is fantastic - not a "kiddie" movie, but not some kinda wierd "adult" cartoon either - just a story with real characters, dialouge, and one amazing robot...

Seriously - its the single most overlooked movie ever.

LOTR was a great movie, right up to the ending. The ending was really terrible IMHO, it detracted from the overall enjoyment. It was a nice movie, but doesn't even come close to ranking up there with the best movies of all time...... Taste is subjective, so there is no "best" movie and there never can be.

The Godfather rocked though.....

If there was justice in the world neither of them would be No. 1.

They're both great movies and all, definitely tops in their respective categories (fantasy and mob), but in no way tops overall!

Have u even seen LOTR yet or do you continue to spew hateful rhetoric at it for no good reason? Just wondering :)

I rented godfather parts one and two this weekend because I'd never seen them. They are "ok". Not excellent. They are decent. I got a bit bored half way through the second one and returned it before finishing. It kind of seems to me that it would have made for a better book. So little actually happens that I just found my focus-challenged personality unable to bother finishing.

OMFG It's part ONE, why do people complain about the ending?!?!??!!

Anyway ndee is right. It is in the eye of the beholder. I did not care for godfather at all. I loved LOTR. Others don't share this opinion.
