Then what about the many members that have had only problems and bad experiences? What about them? Because they DO exist. You are brushing this off like it is nothing.

But since you are all seasoned PC builders/users and this problem had happened to YOU, i wondered what you would do if you had little to no solution to it. "Move along"?

Take it all with a grain of salt. In my brief stint on the forums, I've noticed quite a few examples of people mistaking their post count with actual computer knowledge. Like anything else, you have to separate the valuable from the invaluable...no matter the post count.

Hopefully things work out in your favor. Like many others, I too have had success with gtx 460's, but that doesn't mean that there aren't bad ones, or worse, cases like yours. Good luck.

I don't see what the big deal is anyways. If some of the cards are having problems and some are not. Why always point the finger at pilot error! It's possible it's a hardware problem with the cards. Maybe different supplier of some chip, etc. It's also most likely that Nvidia and others will downplay it as much as possible.

I got a Nvidia MB that wouldn't boot with a Nvidia card in it. But it would boot with ATI 4850....Go figure! And yes I did boot the Nvidia card in another system just fine.

Seems like some would eat a turd if Nvidia said it was chocolate

I have a S478 P4 mobo, a Biostar P4M900, with PCI-E and DDR2. Plugged in a GeForce 6600 PCI-E card, no boot. No Post. Had to clear CMOS to get it working again. Plugged in an ATI X1300 Pro, no problems. Same GeForce 6600 had worked in two other systems with Intel chipsets.

This is kind of funny as I had a problem recently but was lucky in the end result. I decided to build a new sandy bridge setup and grab a 460 as well. I ordered the 460 a couple of weeks before ordering everything else so I could shop around. Tossed the 460 into my system which consisted of a ip35-e, e6600@3.4, 4gig ram and then 4850.

I had nothing with problems at this point. I would get horrible stutters that would last over second. After trying a bunch of different drivers I got rid of the obvious stuttering but the system would still "hitch" every 4-5 seconds. The game with the worst symptoms was TF2. I had a time demo test that would give me 110fps on my 4850 and 80fps on the 460.

Did a lot of reading and found the issue mentioned all over the place along with possible causes. So I tossed the card on the shelf until my new parts came in. Installed everything and the card works flawlessly now.

But what if it's certain BIOS revisions that cause the issue? If the issue is BIOS specific (whether it's the mobo bios or the gpu bios) then you would expect to see the same motherboard gpu combos listed under both "working" and "not working"

Yep, it happens. XFX has admitted to using a non-reference BIOS with their 5850 cards, which made them incompatible with Asrock 775Dual-VSTA motherboards. I have an issue with a Dual-VSTA board not posting with an XFX 8800GS, hoping it's just a flaky power supply and not a BIOS issue. AGP cards work fine w/ the board. Sorry for the OT (and I have nothing against XFX in general), just throwing that out there.

Edit: OP, good luck w/ your issue. It sure is frustrating troubleshooting this crap.

The only posters I have seen so far with this issue are people with AMD boards, perhaps it is a compatibility issue with those chipsets?

No. Users that have Intel based motherboards are facing problems as well. Read up on the threads on my first post and you will see.

I don't know what illegal narcotics you partake in Jim. But, my 460 hasn;t had any problems even in AMD chipset motherboards.

They're not sceptical because they're 'seasoned PC builders/users' but because it concerns a product they love so dearly. There are too many brand loyalists running around these days, don't mind them.
