What you need:

Old hard drives
Pliars
Tin snips
Screwdriver kit
Dremel (or something to smooth the rough edges with)

1. Take off every screw you can find in the hard drive. You'll probably need to remove some stickers to get at all of the screws in the outer casing.

2. Remove the platters, taking care not to scratch or bend them.

3. With the tin snips, cut three triangular wedges into one platter equal distances apart from each other. Don't cut all the way to the hole in the middle, leave a little bit so you can bend the wedges in.

4. Bend the wedges in, then bend the outer wedges around the inner wedges.

5. Take another platter and, starting at the outside, cut it in a spiral all the way into the center.

6. Mess with the end of the spiral with the pliars. until you have it kind of bunched up.

7. Thread the spiral into the rose you made with the first platter.

8. Bend the spiral around the bottom of the rose to make a base for it to rest on.

9. Mess with the rest of the spiral to tighten the curve and give it a base to stand on.

10. PROFIT

Any cuts on your hands?

haha wow, that's kinda neat, i may consider doing that.

*grabs dremel, scre drivers, and tin snips*
now.. to find some old hard drives.

No, the edges aren't as sharp as they look. I'm still going to sand them down with a dremel, but they won't cut your fingers accidentally.

Exactly. Don't even bother opening your old deathstar.

I'm not sure this is metal, actually. It's shiny like metal, but it doesn't feel like metal. Tearing it sounds like you're cutting into really stiff styrofoam.

Aluminum... or so I thought.

When I make another one I'll take intermediate pics. In the meantime...

You bend the inner wedges in to form the inner petals, and the outer wedges around them to form the outer petals. I messed around with a piece of paper cut like a platter to figure out how I wanted to do it.
