The Gates

Modeps

Lifer
Has anyone seen them in person? The photos I've seen make them look just terrible. I know art is subjective, but... I dont think they're art at all. I think they're just some girders and some cloth that cost FAR too much for the city of New York... I guess tourism is picking up so that's good, but ... BLEH! :disgust:

I've seen them, they look ridiculous. For some reason the front of the Time Warner Building on Columbus Circle is also draped in that horrid orange color. This is what passes for art today. I don't think the city paid anything for it, IIRC a couple of "artists" did it and paid for it themselves.

I stand corrected then I thought the city financed the supposed $21 million they cost. I still think they're an eyesore.

I pass them every day. They look stupid. Makes the whole park look like it's under construction. A shame, because I had high hopes as I like a lot of Christo & Jeanne Claude's work.

That's exactly what my mom said. They look so out of place.

Took a horse and buggy ride around central park the night it opened... sooooo many cops everywhere. Looked pretty bad while in the park iteself. If you're looking at a large chunk of the park from outside of it, it doesn't look as bad. Not worth the money at all, probably couldn't get much worse.

Why haven't that pair of nut jobs been hang on one of their gates for making the central park look like an ass now?

I think it would look a lot better if the park was covered in snow...

I'm thinking Home Depot was behind The Gates, w/ their two new stores in NYC and the color orange! :Q

I smell a conspiracy!

what are they going to do with the materials when it's over? seems like such a waste. build homes or something...

I actually like it, though I haven't seen it in person. They've been trying to get this done for a very long time now...I remember reading about it and it's pretty cool to see it finally realized.

Yeah, it's great that these 2 people were able to realize their dream, but why does the entire NYC have to suffer because of it?

:disgust: way to miss the point...

it's pretty cool to see it realized because I think it's a great work, I'd love to be able to go see it. I highly doubt NYC is suffering.

if you don't like it, chill out, it's only two weeks.
