This is the mum farm my wife and I started going to when we first moved here every fall on our anniversary.

She takes the wife out to the back where they still haven't popped all their blooms.

Just placed my order for onions from Dixondale Farms. I'm a little late this year but my business is growing and that means less time to do these types of things.

Interesting site.

It's still way too early here in the PNW to even think about planting, even in my greenhouse, but, as usual, we'll plant 3 tomatoes, (at least one a Roma variety) a couple of jalapenos, maybe one serrano, a couple of poblano/ancho chiles, and...???
My greenhouse space is pretty limited.

Pre-ordered and prepaid for our yearly peony collection. Whitehall gardens in the Ville has a free-for-all pick up of leftovers every spring and I’m just tired of waiting in line and getting scraps. We just have to go pick up our order.

I keep meaning to get lots of peonies (because they are the best flowers) but I always remember at the wrong bit of the year!

Planted lots of lettuce and both green and rainbow Swiss chard. These love my garden soil much better than any other crops, except maybe turnips.

The only plans for later are cukes and orange cherry tomatoes, with maybe a few full size red ones. I can't find Lemon Boys in garden centers as plants any more.

My wife loves peonies. She is a particular fan of the Itoh varieties. We have many planted throughout the flower gardens.

Maybe a couple persimmon trees. I planted persimmon and pawpaw seeds, but fucking squirrels dug into the planters and ate them. I found some gnarly dried up persimmons I put in a cup in the fridge, and just stuck the dry fruits into some planting media, and I a couple trees have sprouted. Still too soon to know if they're persimmon. The media I used spent a lot of time outside, and picked up a bunch of plants on the way. Could be anything coming up. The pawpaw appears to be a total loss.

If you are ever in the Peoria Illinois area stop by Washington Greenhouse. We always stock Lemon Boy with around 70 other varieties of tomatoes to choose from.

Speaking of tomatoes. @BoomerD I hope you have a really good harvest this year. Don't forget to use that calcium nitrate.🙂

Got the onions from Dixondale Farms planted. They filled the back boxes so that will leave less room for herbs and carrots this year. I'm kind of excited to be planting onions again. A few years ago our onion crop got a bacterial leaf blight because we did not rotate planting properly.

This is the first time we have planted onions in a couple of years and I am really happy about it. I love onions. I truly think they are the apple of the earth. Earth as in the ground.....not the planet.

All three boxes have different varieties onions planted in them.

My fifth attempts at White Champaca (Magnolia × alba) has failed. Around $800 down the drain through this whole ordeal.

Oh well, I will start with Sambac Jasmine now.

8th of fckn April...frost warnings all around me. (we're close enough to the ocean that it SHOULDN'T frost here.
At least we're not in one of those places that still have several feet of snow on the ground...and temps in the 20s (or colder) overnight.

We did get almost an inch of hail this morning as a storm cell passed over. I just had the dog out to pee...you can definitely see your breath. (accuweather sez 42F)
