The Garage door as the main entrance

Ok so hear me out. I want to know if anyone else grew up using their garage door as the main entrance to their house. In Louisiana this is very common, in fact we often thought people using the front door was a bit weird and it was either a salesman or bible pusher. I have traveled all around for a while now and this is not a normal thing. This is something common across the state of Louisiana, just last December I went back to visit a buddy and yet again through the garage door. Thoughts?

we always used the side door because that was in the driveway. People coming to the front door was a good screener for people that we didn't want to deal with.

What do you mean by main entrance? We used both. If I parked on the street I went in the front door. If I parked in the garage I went in the garage door. If I went for a walk or run I would use whatever door was most convenient.

The garage is chauffeur space. I have no interest in going in there. Furthermore, I would have to hire an extra doorman to man the second door, an extravagant expense simply to look trashy.

I never had a garage until I moved here, but on the houses where I had a carport, the carport door was the main entrance. Only the pizza guy and solicitors used the front door. Never thought about it until now. 😛

I don't actually have a garage, just a carport. And the house was too cheap to come with a carport door so the front door it is. Also, <shame> I don't really have a chauffeur or a doorman though the cats used to run to greet me at the door when I came home which was way better.

And yeah I mean the carport as well, to me the carport might as well be a garage.

Front door is reserved for guests. We park both are vehicles in the garage -- walking around to the front door would just be extra effort.

Same here ...

Now where I live currently, the driveway is in front of the house, and walkway goes to front door and side door, and we only use the side door when we take out the garbage, otherwise, always the front door 🙂

Only if you parked your car in there first. Otherwise it seems like a huge waste of mechanical and electrical resources. Turn a key instead. Also, those garage door codes can be hacked easier so you're supposed to have a locked interior door anyway - not much more convenient.

I do this right now 😀 It's just easier to go through the garage because it leads to the kitchen to dump off groceries, so it's closer.

We always used the kitchen/side door entrance. The main front door led right into the main living room area and we were always banned from that area. It was only for guests or company.

Make sense to me. After all, there seems to be no shortage of people who do it the other way round, and drive their car through their front door. Sometimes through other people's front doors.

QFT the help uses the back entrance.
It all depended on what we were doing! If we had gone to the park or out to the mountains and were dirty we woulds use the garage door where we would take a ba5th and change into nicer clothes!
If we went shopping with our cook, after shopping for grocerys we would help the cook bring in the groceries through the entrance to the kitchen! It was always fun to see the kitchen!
I can remember Father telling me - Master Yoda the front door is always reserved for guests!
way to many entrances to count them all!!

Hmmm, I think I said that but I like your Dad's quote.🙂

Grew up in FL. used the front door as the main entrance most times. When heading to the woods behind our house we used the back door. I.e., whichever was the most convenient for the direction we were heading.
