I did a roll back to 81.98 driver signed and didn't do any good, so went back to 84.20. Did some tweak as some suggested, ran again, for a while inside the dungeon, then lost graphics but sound or audio remained, I ended up quitting the game. The way this game is behaving, this is starting to get on my nerve to say the least. But is it worth playing? I dunno until someone can get some answer or patched/fixes available.

Well... I've been priming for 13+ hours and no fail. I'll try other drivers later today (gonna continue to run prime as I'm about to go to class now). If the drivers don't fix my problem, I think I might buy an X1800/X1900. Anyone want to buy a 7800GTX for cheap? :)

If you could, try running the game on your P4/7800GT rig. I'm curious if you'd experience problems on that system as well...

Wow... just now Prime failed. It was near 14 hours... I don't know if Oblivion is so taxing that I would lock up within a half an hour of play, but it looks like I have to bump my voltage a little or ease off on my clocks. I'll do this, and change my drivers, and I'll report back later.

My AMD rig had previously been primed test for 72 hrs w/o error. What I want to do next is slow down or relax the gpu core/memory clock and watch what happen next in game. Did you pay attention to the gpu temps? Mine seems normal @ 60ish C in game.

I haven't really paid attention to temps... what is the program that monitors temps again?

fire up some prime (allocating a large amount of ram on blend) and run rthdribl with it for an hour and see where your temps are. open the rthdribl running window as large as you can but so that you can still read the control panel temps.

I used a 2nd monitor in dual view mainly for troubleshooting purposes or cases like this so I can monitor what's temps my gtx is cooking at. I believe RivaTuner or ATItool may work in cases like this but not sure.

I'm gonna try this as well... I just crashed out of Oblivion :( I was doing sweet too.

Edit: This was with a reduction of my CPU to 2.58GHz

Running rthdribl and 2 instances of P95...
My temps are
CPU: 46 C
GPU: 78 C <<< I just read a review that had the 7800GTX GPU exceeding 80 degrees.... I'm not too bad off am I?

Mine is an eVGA and should be safe @ > 90c as told by eVGA Tech support. Your temps look okay I must say.
What's your game settings again? Mine is 1680x1050 res, HDR on, all distances are selected. I may try bloom instead of HDR tonite to see if makes any differences.

Isn't very frustrating that you love to play the game that won't let you. :(

Mine's an EVGA too... so I guess the temperature isn't horrible. I run 1280*1024 res, Bloom/2x AA, all distances selected, and the *.ini tweaks listed in another thread.

I agree that it's SUPER frustrating. If a patch isn't released soon I think I'm going ATI, I haven't heard any complaints from ATI + Oblivion yet.

I changed from HDR to BLOOM with max (aa/af) filtering. Stayed with 84.21 driver and guess what? I played for an hour last night mostly oudoor without a glitch (well there were some minor lagging as expected). Will keep my settings at this new sweet spot for as long as possible.

xtremeg 84.20

probably gonna try some different drivers if i'm prime stable

Just try it with the settings at stock. Prime stable doesn't always mean its stable. It just means its probably stable.

It's just unnerving that CS:S and BF2 play fine, yet this game doesn't. I guess I'll try to reduce the clocks later today.

allies-I assumed you've read my last post that I had better luck with Bloom than HDR considered I only played an hour last night w/o any glitch. Try to change yours to HDR (which is the opposite with mine) to see if you have any better luck. One more thing I switched to 84.98 that got worse so I switched back to 84.21 now. What's your o/s? XP or x64? Nvidia has the beta out for xp (32bit) I think.

I have XP 32bit. One thing I do remember, however, is that when I installed Oblivion I was also in the process of updating my antivirus, and the Oblivion installer froze at the end. I just uninstalled Oblivion (which deleted my game! argh.. luckily I wasn't that far) and I'm reinstalling as we speak. I'll see if it works :)

Cool... Oblivion game files aren't touched during a reinstall. Anyway, I found out my problem, and solution, HERE

Ever since stayed with BLOOM it hasn't crashed since so this must be good as to stay away from HDR. I will look at your (Allies) solution too. It looks like we are able to keep the game under control so it's time for some serious Oblivion gaming. Man, I'm still amazed by the outdoor landscape sceneries graphic of the game itself. Wow!!!!

Actually I attend OSU... if today weren't such a nice day I'd be playing Oblivion, but since it's nice, I'm off to play some frisbee.

I played for about an hour last night though and after following the steps for the solution, the game worked perfectly.

After I turned HDR off I had no problems at all. This game looks absolutely beautiful on my system. Playing at 1920 X 1200.
