I've been tweaking my new Ti4200 Golden Sample all day, and check out this benchmark:

3dmark

I got it to overclock to 285/540 with no visual artifacts, default is 250/446.

Man this is the best $199 I've spent for my system yet! :D

Until Tuesday...

Doesn't that suck? I almost bought a Ti4200 to replace my GF3 Ti200... I really hope the 4200's drop in price. That is the card I've been telling all my friends to pick up... <sigh>

Maybe I'll still get one to play with..

It depends on your opinion, but I know for sure the Ti4200 isnt 2x as fast as a Radeon 8500

Indeed. I mean, it looked good for about $150 when the Radeon was also $150. But right now when its $200 vs $100 it seems a bit ridiculous. If that $200 model is a VIVO it makes up for it a bit but I don't see what the excitement is about at these price levels. Especially with new schtuff from Creative, Matrox and ATI on the verge of seriously upsetting the entire Nvidia line even more so than they have done themselves. I am not trying to poo poo anyone's purchase but being in the same position the R8500 still seems the best bang for the drakmar at the mo'.

I bought a GeForce4 Ti4200 because I had a radeon. I hated the driver support. Nothing ever worked right on my card. In comparison, this GF4 is incredible. Its fast, stable, it looks good, and most importantly, my games don't crash due to driver issues

Typical user error.

Yep, I'm going to buy a GF 4 Ti 4200 to play Morrowind, it's going to be vastly superior to my GF DDR.

ATI's drivers are crap. Its not user error..and frankly, I am insulted that you would say it is. This radeon was even unstable when I moved it to a whole different computer. Funny how going nvidia fixed all of the crashes I was having, isn't it? Oh, and the radeon wasn't so unstable that it wouldn't play any games...it just crashed out to the desktop too often. Since I got my GF4, I haven't had one case where it crashed out to the desktop, even in games where it used to crash fairly often.

The few that have problems either have no clue what they're doing or leave remnants from old nVidia drivers in their system or registry. I've run every Radeon and every nVidia up to the 4 and NEVER had the slightest problem with the drivers. Guess there's no user error on my part. Knowing what you're doing will prevent you spreading FUD about ATI drivers. As for nVidia I guess the infinite loop error so many got was a sign of a well written drivers......

I have always had an ATI card in my system, and never ran into stability problems. It seems to work both ways when people switch from ATI to Nvidia or Nvidia to ATI, causing problems with drivers.

Ive had my 8500 for about 2 months now, and with each driver release I get improved performance without ANY problems whatsoever. My little brother has the GF3 and ran into the artifacting problem with Dungeon Siege, which was the first time I had seen any problems with the Geforce line firsthand.

Besides, if absolute stability was a true concern, none of us would be running Windows, now would we?

I KNOW what I'm doing. My radeon experience was on a completly fresh system. Installing video card drivers, espicaly ATI's isn't rocket science...just click the instalation executable and let it run. I was running the latest drivers, the drivers before that...the drivers before that...on both win2k, winXP and win98. I can find others that have had major problems with ATI's drivers, and you can find people who have had a wonderful experience with them.

In my case....it's not user error. You might have a different experience than me simply because you have different hardware in your system. Thats all well and good, but don't go calling me an idiot (thats what you're doing) because I, not to mention other people, have had problems with ATIs drivers.

Really? that stinks :(

I have been downloading the betas from rage3d for many months and the omegaman drivers when they come out also and have had not one single problem in any game with my R8500

That's exactly what I call the small minority who can't get an ATI or nVidia card working and immediately whine BAD DRIVERS. Look in the mirror Sparky.

LISTEN TO ME!!!! I'm not saying everyone is having problems!!!!! I'm saying I had problems, and they were fixed by upgrading to a GeForce 4. If you're not having any problems, thats fine! But don't go calling me an idiot because I was having problems.

My last post on the matter. I refuse to waste my time and energy arguing with you.

ATI fanboys just dont' give up. Some people have better luck w/ other cards. My ATI card is still running flawlessly, surprised I got this far w/ a radeon le 32mb. I'm gonna wait to see what I get next...I was definitely thinking about the gf4 4200. Glad it's going good for you.
