Anand also carefully worded that it's "based" on the G70, Nivida's next generation of video cards. Nvidia seems like they pulled it off again.

How funny though that the G70, as Nvidia states, will have more power than two 6800Ultra's in SLI. Now what would be even more funny is if that the G70 was less expensive.

See my point?

yup it looks pretty impressive!! since its mentioned that its based on the g70 pc chip we can be pretty sure now that the new G70 will be easily 2X+ the performance of the 6800U. nice stuff

So does this mean that the G70 is actually going to be manufactured on the 90nm process? Because it said the RSX which is based on the G70 was 90nm.

quote: "The RSX GPU features over 300 million transistors built on an eight layer 90nm process; note that the combination of the RSX GPU and the Cell CPU in PS3 is close to 600 million transistors." /quote

No way in hell can we be sure of that. All they said was, in shader operations. 136 as opposed to 53.

quote: "The GPU itself can process 136 shader operations per cycle, compared to 53 shader ops per cycle of the current GeForce 6 GPU. In terms of shader performance, the RSX is clearly more powerful than even two GeForce 6 GPUs." /quote

So the xbox360 claims 1 teraflop and the ps3 calims 2 teraflops. Looking at the specs, they seem somewhat similar, at least in the graphics department. The cell might lay down a beating on the xbox cpus though, but I think both consoles specs are inflated way out of proportin right now.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to getting the PS3.

we keep get contradicting news!! the RSX might just be based on the G70s architecture but the G70 might be 110nm...who knows! we will just have to wait :brokenheart:

The good part is, instead of spending a grand on a new PC, I can just buy the PS3 for like $300-400, and have the best graphics for a year. And I do use a PC for gaming, but it's not a high end machine, so I want something better.

not even a year. a 300 system is not going to take over pc's worth 1000's of dollars for that long. otherwise, they'd be getting ripped off. there must be some limitation and compromise.

No its simple they lose money on hardware and they make money on games for (they hope) a net profit.

I am thinking the same thing. Very cost effective year.

they seem somewhat similar, at least in the graphics department.

Xbox360
*48 Billion Shader Operation Per Second
*720p, 1080i single display
* ??-bit pixel precision

PS3
*100 Billion Shader Operations Per Second
*1080p x 2 channels
*128-bit pixel precision

If we can believe the stated specs, PS3 > Xbox360 by a significant margin in terms of GPU Shader Processing performance.

I watched this GameSpot video from the E3 event. NVIDIA stuff starts at about 21:21 into the video. The Unreal3 Demo and the NVIDIA Tech Demo are crazy (as well as the others). I haven't seen Xbox360 in motion, but I don't think anyone will be dissapointed with either.

:D suddenly everyone seems to want to buy a PS3...i wonder what the reaction would be once nvidia reveals its next gen part and makes us wait until Q3

Sure. There is a big compromise. Try running MS word on your Xbox/PS. Multiply that by 10,000 other things you can do with a PC that you cant' do with a 3 to 400 dollar console.
All you can do is game, watch DVD's and maybe listen to an MP3 CD. PC's are sort of limitless as to what you can do. Your Xbox will sit there for years and be the same exact thing since the day you bought it. PC with be upgraded, improved. Your Xbox/PS3 will be surpassed by PC's very quickly forcing your Xbox/PSwhatever to gather dust under the TV.

As you can probably tell, I am not a console fan. My son isn't really old enough for a Playstation/Xbox/Nintendo yet. He just turned 3. I am too used to my keyboard and mouse and find the console controllers bulky and awkward. My opinion.

Well yes, regular NTSC TV resolution does in fact suck, but these new consoles are targeting HDTV's in a big way. However, that has the interesting side effect of completely eliminating the "consoles are cheaper to game on than PC's" argument...
