With recent events, and some wild beliefs being thrown around. Do you think the end of the world, as we know it, is near? Do you believe this war on terror could escalate to something so huge, WWIII, that it will inevitably cause our destruction? Your thoughts please. I am very serious about this, and immature flames and comments are not appreciated. If that does indeed happen, I encourage a mod to lock this thread. Thank you.

Ask again in about 2-4 years and we'll either know for sure or have a lot better information to base our opinions on, if it hasn't happened already. The next few years will be very important, IMO.

Cyclo, I agree very much. However, I was watching the History Channel last night, trying to bore myself to sleep :)P) and they were running the "Bible Code" special show, and it had some interesting things. And later, things related to the end of life as we know it. It has got me thinking, as a lot of it had to do with what was going on in the middle east right now.

Of course it's possible. And of course it could.

Do I think it will? Dunno. I'll say one thing though...I'm old enough to remember being scared sh!tless a few decades ago, I'm glad I'm not a kid during these times.

I do feel quite certain that society as we know it is on the brink of profound changes. To some, that MIGHT seem like the end of the world.

When you consider our dependence on oil, enviromental changes that are already starting (and probably beyond our control anyway), and just human nature in general, I think that it is not unthinkable that we will have a police state or other unpleasant form of society in the future.

We were actually talking about this earlier this week... if Ivan slammed into Florida, which believe me, we are already limping from the past two storms, we would *need* to be under martial law for a while. People would be freaking out.

We've become soft, Mother Nature is a raging bitch, and people who have power don't like giving it up. It wouldn't take too many more category 5 storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc for our society to crumble.

BTW, I don't subscribe to any doomsday scenarios. I just think that all the factors are coming together for society as we know it to change pretty drastically in the next decade.

The times, they are a changin'

I think what is messing the world up is not the change, it's the ever increasing rate of change. If we as a society keep allowing the family unit to break down because effiency and profits are more important then the family unit, then it's hard to say what will happen.

Look at the number of two income families that don't have a choice. Where both Father and Mother work 50 to 60 hours per week.

Loook at the divorce rate in this country today.

People are increasingly stressed out, depressed and feel they have lost any kind of control over their lives.

Doing your best anymore just isn't enough, it's win at all costs. 2nd place is just another loser.

Ask yourself, do you really believe we are headed in the right direction? Are we improving our standard of living?

i don't figure anyone can know the time of his return, nor do anything to hasten or slow it.

even after Jesus returns, the world wont end for another thousand years.

Ten years ago, I saw some" Bible code" they predict America stand strong for another 250 years. A conflict in middle east will happen. But it will be short and result will be outstanding more than we expect. After that lead to Asia war. And the Enemy will the big red ass boys. The bible said. Asia will die 70% of population
Ok I don't believe it much. But good to know . No harm

as far as the biblical standpoint is concerned....

the thousand year reign refers to an end of this system of things, not the world.
"the meek shall inherit the earth" not heaven
earth will stand "to time indefinite"

the earth was created with a purpose. "fill the earth and subdue it."

so from a religious perspective, no

corrupt human gov't.... definitely.

read the book of daniel. pretty scary shit.

Meh, the Bible Code is a joke. If I arrange any book of sufficient length in a regular fashion (same number of rows and columns on every page) and try to find words/dates/whatever, I'll be able to find it. Sheer probability proves this. Besides, they arbitrarily decided what language to use and the arrangement of symbols on the page. Sounds cool, but it's not if you think about it too much. :p

Agreed. I read something this week about the Kinsey reports' effect on family stability. Apparently, his whole study has been completely discredited, but our society's sexual mores are still based on them. This has led to the destruction of the family as it was known before the 60's. I can type up some of the article if anyone is interested.

The family as it was known before the 60's is hardly an ideal to strive for.
