As long as our AI overlords run the cars at 500+mph I am fine with this
This always assumes that the machines will have ambitions that are comparable to ours. They might be perfectly ok with caring for human pets.Apple co-founder on artificial intelligence: The future is scary and very bad for people
In an interview with the Australian Financial Review, Wozniak joined original club members Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk by making his own casually apocalyptic warning about machines superseding the human race.
"Like people including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have predicted, I agree that the future is scary and very bad for people," Wozniak said. "If we build these devices to take care of everything for us, eventually they'll think faster than us and they'll get rid of the slow humans to run companies more efficiently."
... Musk was among the earliest members of this club. Speaking at the MIT aeronautics and astronautics departments Centennial Symposium in October, the Tesla founder said: "With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon. In all those stories where theres the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, its like, yeah, hes sure he can control the demon. Didn't work out."

Will I even have to be in my Auto Car? I'm looking forward to having the car take my dog to the vet for me, sending the car to pick up a hooker or the stuff from Costco I just ordered online, or hauling a bunch of my crap somewhere while I fly instead.
:hmm: I wonder what this will do to UPS and FedEx. Business will decrease a bit, and then the remaining trucks will drive themselves around while the worker sits in the back and chucks packages at houses without stopping.
It sure reduced the need for workers though. Of course, that's the same case in any industry where automation is introduced. What happened to farm equipment suppliers when the tractor came around? They either adapted, reorganized, or faded away.
Who does own the car then? Private entities? Sort of like a lease thing, or monthly subscription service I guess? It makes zero economic sense to own a car when self driving cars becomes a reality.

If it all transitions at once, sure. If it's gradual, no.you can't assume on demand robot car rental would be financially sound. i mean, as of right now you can call a taxi and not operate a car yourself. not only is the price alarming, but supply is always short of demand in peak usage.
even if i didn't want to drive, i'd certainly want my own car available when i want it, with all of my own possessions and none of anyone else's filth.
how many millions will lose their jobs once self-driving cars are embraced by business?
taxis, busses, trucks, small deliveries just to begin with. then all the jobs that go into supporting people driving cars, like gas stations and repair shops with drastically reduced income.
economic disaster, while insurance companies laugh their way to the bank.
Motion carried.First of all, driving is a privilege. As it is, too many people shouldn't be driving already. But yeah, your OP is full of shit.
I don't see how autonomous vehicles will handle winter road conditions.
The earliest versions? Probably not so well. Later models will handle it better than humans.
Every decision you would have made, a bot can be programed to follow the same logical reasoning.
Considering the government keeps trying to regulate everything and remove rights these days, I could see it eventually happen.

this will never happen in our lifetime
