I'm sure some nice sized student loans paid for those nice laptops, I hope they are majoring in a useful degree!

Truthfully, a Macbook Pro isn't that much more expensive than a high quality PC laptop. They're great to type on, they turn on instantly, and have fantastic battery life. I know that would be my choice for school.

I usually brought my laptop to large lectures like that when I had them because straining my eyes looking at the powerpoints are ridiculous.

Any technical class though - no laptops.

Actually in my school none of the teachers tell you to have a laptop and some of them will ask you to close it during class. They dont want cheating, fucking around, or the mental distraction.

First year, a kid in my class got tossed out of the lecture for having his laptop open and then not closing it fast enough when the professor asked. Unless there's some directly interactive event occurring during the class that requires a laptop, I'm totally against them in class. (unless someone needs one for a legitimate accessibility issue)

Reminds me of the time, we taped a class and panned out to the audience. We had to reshoot the footage because there were too many upskirts in the shot.
But damn that is a lot of macs. There had to be some deal with apple for students to change the percentages that much.

I'm looking at getting a laptop for school, mostly for programming. But truthfully it's more of a distraction IN class than anything else. It's really not practical for taking notes or anything else.

I tried OneNote and frankly paper is much easier.

Only downside is my handwriting stinks. Being able to rearrange your notes and have them look nice is kinda cool.
