As October 14 approaches, I've been catching up on matters I should have explored in 2021, but I was providing disabled/elder-care to two family members -- a burden I embraced until end of 2023. If I had "been on the ball" so to speak, I would've updated my Windows 10 to Win 11 on gens 6 and 7 systems I had built.

Now I have two of these systems smoothly updated to Windows 11 and running perfectly.

Experiences by folks who've been running Win 11 on excluded hardware seem to suggest that the trouble-free installations can be upgraded with Feature Updates by downloading the Win 11 ISO file raised to that Update and installing it as we previously had done in in-place repair-upgrades to Win 10 when we first installed Windows 11.

Now we are facing the release of Feature Update 25H2. Will we continue to have this luck -- being able to go through the hoops described here to update our unsupported Windows 11 systems?

All sorts of rumors abound about what M$ may do. Some rumors say they will loosen the hardware requirements of Windows 11; others suggest they will tighten the requirements.

What are your anticipations in this looming question, and how do you justify them?

If history repeats, yes. ISO in-place upgrades have worked from 21H2 through 24H2 on unsupported CPUs with bypass scripts. MS hasn't shown signs of hard-blocking existing installs mid-cycle, only new ones via setup/update.

There seem to be expressions of hope and positivity at Eleven Forums. But until I see it transpire -- uncertainty won't free us from anxiety.

I started this, and there were some responses. I don't expect the thread to get so hot that it grows much.

I'm new to the "ineligible" Win 11 installation club. I'm sure some folks jumped on this bandwagon in 2022, and I've tracked their "news" and their silence. (Silence indicating "No Problemo" quoting the Terminator). Some other friends here said they were hesitant to use such a PC for "serious" or "important" work. Right now, for that sort of thing, I have a Windows 10 Pro with the ESU.
But I don't see any problems with serious use for a Win 11 on a Kaby Lake with TPM and Secure Boot. If there's some problem, I have a Win 11 laptop integrated to my local network with synched files. And I have Comet Lake and Rocket Lake parts for which I can use my G.SKILL DDR4 RAM kits. Maybe I'll build a new Arrow Lake system next year, or AMD given the urgings some have passed to me. I just know that my digital fortress -- for now -- is working well without any problems.
