The FOP32-1 is a good HS, but how can I exchange this noisy fan?

Well first of all.... happy new year.....

I would like to exchange this damn noisy fan, which size do I have to get? I would like the quietest one.

Thanx

Actually the fan is quiet, but it rattles because of the loose retention mechanism for the fan. I added rubber feet at the 4 corners of the fan and it no longer rattles.

I do have 2 old athlon Slot A coolers... Do you think I could take one of these small fans and put it on the heatsink? Or are these fans too small?

those might be too small.. I would do the rubber feet thing.. probably easy to find at the hardware store. or secure it in some other fashion. I haven't gotten my 32-1 yet so this is information I will find useful as well. I often wondered if that clip retention system caused the noise that people were talking about.

The rubber feet I use are from a cd rack I bought, they keep it from sliding on a slippery surface. When I first installed the FOP, it was very annoying as it would hit a certain resonnance that got very irritating, I could stop the noise by manipulating the fan (moving it slightly), but it would eventually start up again. I tried bending the clips to tighten the tension but it still rattled. The feet have worked great for the last 3 weeks.

if you think the 32 is loud you don't want to even hear the 38 =P. but anyway, i believe the fan size you need is 60 mm x 60 mm.

Hey thanks Laz.. I just got the FOP32-1 and used your rubber feet idea.. of course I won't be able to test it out till next month. Ripped a Rubber pad off the bottom of my old super nintendo.. not like I'll be needing that anyhow :D

The fan you are looking for is 60x25mm.

If you want a quieter fan go for the Sanyo. It's about 6 dBA and 8 cfm less than the YS Tech that came with the FOP32-1. It won't cool your chip as well, but it will be less noisy.

Try here for the Sanyo 60mm fan. Only problem is that it costs almost as much as the FOP32-1 by itself.

Max Power:
I just ordered the ADDA 60mm Fan. 16.1 dbA. For sure it will not cool so good, but I prefer quiet > temperature, and the temp won't rise so much.
