The flying notebook

A couple weeks ago I did some work for a guy and he gave me an IBM notebook that his son threw across the living room (I'd turn him into a daughter for that). Anyway, it's a Thinkpad 760el. I was wondering where a good place would be to get parts for it.

thanks,
kevin

Sorry, I had to go to work after posting this... The laptop will not power up at all, even with the power cord. I have the manual but I'm not sure where to start. I gotta read up on this thing and figure out where it's power supply is, ect.... It is actually in good shape. Nothing is really cracked or broken, but I know that it doesn't take much to screw up a motherboard either. This is sad. It's a 133mhz with a 2.1gig hard drive with 48meg of ram. I would have killed this kid. I wanna get this thing running, as it would be my very first laptop.

If it won't power up at all, then there is a chance that some connections could have gotten knocked loose inside. You definately need to open it up anyway to check for damage.

Unfortunately, those 760 units are very obsolete now (although I still know people who have them as their primary PC here at IBM..go figure) You can get a working 760 unit on e-bay for about $100. So I am not sure it is worth the effort of fixing it. Buy a working unit for $100, and use yours for parts. E-bay also has parts listed there, if you really want to try and fix it.

E-Bay 760 listings

If you want a thinkpad for little money, go check out our refurbished equipment site:

IBM Global Financing Refurbished PC Wharehouse

However, you may find cheaper units on amazon and e-bay, but at least the refurbished units hava a warranty (90 days?).
