The Flight of the Phoenix

Based on a novel by Elleston Trevor, director John Moore's The Flight of the Phoenix is a remake of a 1965 film of the same name starring film icon James Stewart. The story revolves around the plight of Captain Frank Towns (Dennis Quaid), a pilot whose C-119 cargo plane full of oil workers could not withstand the violent winds of a desert sandstorm. Stranded in the harsh terrain of Mongolia's Gobi Desert (a departure from the original, in which the plane crashed in the Sahara), Frank and his navigator face an equal challenge in maintaining order among the survivors.

Plot Summary for
The Flight of the Phoenix (1965)
A cargo plane goes down in a sandstorm in the Sahara with less than a dozen men on board. One of the passengers is an airplane designer who comes up with the idea of ripping off the undamaged wing and using it as the basis for an airplane they will build to escape before their food and water run out.

If the new one is near as good as the 1965 version, this movie should be great. 🙂

Hell yeah I remember Jimmy Stewart. I loved it. I think the remake would just be a dissapointment, so I will make sure I skip it.

i read the book (a long long long time ago) . . . . it was pretty good . . . . don't remember JS' movie, though.

i don't expect much from the new one . . . . no matter what, i'll wait for the DVD (i really like Hollywood's unlimited movie program)

the original rocked. i like how the guy was stealing all the water rations and he said "im the only one doing any work, i need the water!" haha...pwnage.

FMC is running the original all day today. I just finished watching it, I've seen it before but it's been a while.

They have some info on the new release but after watching the original and then seeing the trailers for the new one the new one looks really really bad.
