the first time (ever) you did something on a computer ?

i try to remember,
but the first time i ever sat in front of a computer was in the very early 80s at a fair. IBM had a booth there with two huge PCs which ran some programs. I had a discounted weekly ticket to the fair because my dad was there too with his company he worked for.

IBM had this 'moon lander' game running..this text game written in BASIC where it 'simulated' a moon lander and you had to enter the acceleration values (AFAIK) of the space craft so it didnt crash

I remember how fascinated i was by these huge machines...like they contained the answer to everything and had incredible calculation powers now at the tip of your fingers/keyboard (Of course i didnt have any clue what to type..but it was fascinating)

My dad brought home a Macintosh (one of the earlier models) so I could write up a report from school.
I found the "secret" folder that had Leisure Suit Larry in it.

It was an interesting experience for an 8 year old :Q

Oregon Trail was definitely a staple and it was so much fun.

Hmmm.. I think it was either when my mother was working for Digital and brought home a new "DecMateII"..with 2400 baud modem...or the Commodore 64 I still have to this day...heh.

I still remember changing the program for Lemonade Stand, so I could sell as many cups as I wanted for as much money as I wanted. I wanted to win the prize the teacher was offering. Sure, it was only popcorn, but it was free.

it was a game where you would run around being chased by maniac apples, you dug a hole, they fall in the hole, you fill it in to kill them

1978 I was in 10th grade and ordered a Timex Sinclair 1000 Computer kit from the back of the Electronics Magazine.

Built the small computer and then later got a TRS-80, then an IBM XT in 1983, got online with the TRS-80 in 1983, didn;t have the Hayes Modem yet that was invented for the PC, it wasn't until 1986 that I got online with Compuserve with the PC.

The first computer I used, I never actually touched. We would create programs on punch cards and hand them in at the computer center. Later we'd come back and they would return the cards along with the printout of the job run.

The first one I actually touched was a million-dollar CAD system based on a DEC PDP 11/70. I used an $80,000 workstation to do CAD drafting. It was amazing. To reboot the PDP, you would set a bunch of switches on the front to indicate the address of the boot program then hit the load switch.

We had a tandy first. I believe it had MS DOS 6.22. The one with somekind of gui. I played some "3d" jet-fighter game, and dig-dug (I think). Great times. Then my dad got a Macintosh LC and I whored crystal quest. God that game ruled.
