The Skunk Cabbage.

yay, us!

Still, its a fascinating plant. It's thermogenic and semi edible.

I have seen this plant since I was a little kid. I grew up in an area with lots of ponds, swamps and a creek all behind our house or with in a 5 min walk.

Its kind of weird seeing this thing growing literally in the middle of the snow in the early spring.

anyone else familiar with this plant?

I remember those from when I was a kid in Mass. Haven't seen them in almost 50 years, but I suspect I'd remember if I saw one.

Do trees count? It is a plant, and I can see them right now. :p

It's only spring on the calendar, still a good month or two before actual spring weather. Though it has been warming up a bit, it was actually zero today. I had to switch to my summer coat as it was too hot. We got a few days recently where it was actually above freezing too. The sun has also been coming out sometimes. Hard on the eyes when you have not seen it in months. :awe:

The pics don't do it justice, it's worse than it looks in the pics. I'd say about half of that snow was this month alone. So sick of shoveling, it feels like that's all I've been doing. Definitely going to invest in a snowblower next year.

You live in the great frozen north...and you're complaining about snow? o_O

I think it's more the fact that I'm just not used to it anymore, first time in around 10 years that we actually have a standard second half of winter. 10 years ago, I was not the one that had to shovel. Took it for granted that my parents would usually hire a guy with a loader to do it.

To think, our winter actually started really late too. Our first real snow fall was in like December. We've been spoiled by climate change with shorter winters.

And yeah was actually quite hot today. I took off my coat half way through shoveling and was in just a tshirt. :awe:

The good thing with this though is it will be a good test for the foundation work I had done last year. New weeping tiles, and fully sealed outside foundation walls.
