Liked Janeway after the first or second season... She grew balls and was cutthroat by the end. How she handled the fellow Federation ship lost in the Delta quadrant was great. Really hated how she screwed over Species 8472 though.

It's not fair to compare anyone else to Mulgrew's role. She got it, we all watched her in it, she owns it. No one else will do a better job at being Kate Mulgrew than Kate Mulgrew.

Having said that, this woman is older with a softer voice and with perhaps a foreign accent. She lacks energy in that scene... there's no vibrance.

Judging from the replies I'm not sure how many people realize Bujold was a big time movie star compared to Mulgrews small time tv actress at the time. Bagging Bujold for Voyager was some kind of coup. Apparently they were so thrilled to have such a serious actress take the part no one stopped to ask themselves whether she was right for it.

This. Before the show came out and word was that the Voyager captain would be female, producers wanted a popular movie actress. Mistake was G.Bujold was not the traveling/promoting type of person. She just didn't fit in. Now they had to look for a seasoned T.V. actress. K.Mulgrew was chosen and the rest is history.

Kate Mulgrew may actually be nominated or an Emmy next years for her role in Orange.

I think that was part of the overall plot where Janeway adapted to her situation in the Delta quadrant. It actually fit into the ending when she broke all the rules to get her ship home.

Watching orange new black now. I hated voyager but she is great in role as Red, for sure. Really a notch above all the other actors.

If we're not lying to ourselves, and unfortunately I see many here are, Patrick Stewart was so fkin money as Piccard that he ruined star trek for everybody else. If you watched early first season deep space nine you probably wanted to eat a bullet over how unbelievably terrible an actor they picked for sisko. Even by 90's standards that was just some terrible acting.

No way. On his time off, Picard was an older, more distinguished Indiana Jones - he was bagging women half his age and made it believable.

Yeah, but nobody wants to watch a solid father figure get all hot and nasty!

A woman captain requires the captain be a woman

After menopause a female is just a man without a penis.

Kate Mulgrew is awesome. With the exception of Picard, she was my favorite Star Fleet Captain.

To be fair, like just about everything else involving Sisko, it became awesome once he went bald.
